Overall ok experience

The course is playing firm and shorter. The downside of that is the contours will funnel the ball into the desert. Be careful off the tee on nos 1 and 10. The course was in good shape. The staff didn't seem very happy or proud of the course though. Overall ok experience but not memorable.

McDowell mountain

Greeted by the cart and club staff right when we got out of the car. Went out at noon on a Friday, no one around, for the summer the course is in good shape,,you could just barely tell the greens had been punched a couple weeks back, still a little sand in them but they still rolled pretty fast, fairways a little hard in spots but that's tone expected for summer in AZ. I played from the whites and the course was still pretty challeninging. Pretty hilly and you have to hit some blind shots. After the round we stopped into the clubhouse grill and had some drinks and great conversations with the staff, had a great time and we will be back.

McDowell Mountain

A great value. Staff is very friendly and course is in great shape especially for the middle of summer in AZ! Only nit is that there isn't much grass to keep balls from rolling off of fairways and into the desert. But the fairways are fairly large so only really bad duffers are hurt by that nit!

High-End Course

I knew about this course from mountain biking nearby and I could tell it was a fairly spectacular course. Having finally had the opportunity to play the course, I was not disappointed. The course is kept in phenomenal condition. On the day I played, however, the greens had been punched and were a bit challenging to play. Nevertheless, that is just a reality in holding the greens through the summer heat we have here. All of the holes have interesting layouts and challenges. The only small drawback is that the course is in the area of high-power lines and the service roads to access them. But this is a small issue with an otherwise great golf course.

Fair desert course

McDowell Mountain was the first 18 of a 36 hole day. We teed off at 8:30 with not many people on the course for a Friday morning. We were informed by the beverage cart she would not be coming around again for the day.
The course conditions were some of the best I have seen in the Valley for this time of year. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens were all in great condition considering it's the month of July. The conditions were very similar to when I played last summer and shows a consistency in how they take care of the golf course.
The course is fair but challenging with areas of relief and a chance to recover without a lost ball. I like the finishing holes on both nines. Number 9 is a fun par five and 18 is a difficult par 4.
Pace of play wasn't an issue as we were around in 3.5 hours. For the price I don't think McDowell Mountain can be beat for conditions and play-ability.

occasion

I had heard about this course from a friend in Detroit. But often times you are not sure until you arrive. I was particularly pleased with the starters willingness to group singles together to avoid slow play. Afterwards the course was in great conditions I had great playing partners and ultimately I shot an 83 which is great for me.

$18 Flyer!

This course was in nearly immaculate shape considering it is the middle of July! Incredibly hard to beat an $18 Hot Deal for a course of this caliber that is in this condition. I was very, very pleased.

Challenging but fun!

I really love playing this course, especially when we were the only 4-some out there. Midadfternoon in Scottsdale is HOT!
The course has challenging holes for everyone but enough attainable holes to let you feel accomplished.
Will definitely play again! Beautiful facilities.

Enjoyable day

I like the changes made to McDowell Mountain/Sanctuary. Better view lines, still good challenge. Ranger was busy keeping pace. Only negative was greens are rough and excuse concerning time of year fails when other courses greens are better.

excellent course conditions

Unlike a lot of other AZ golf courses in July, this course was in great condition. The greens rolled true and, the fairways were in excellent shape. It is well-worth the money for any golfer to play this somewhat challenging course.

A Fun Challenge

Payed $25 to play in the afternoon. Fantastic practice facility along with an immaculate clubhouse. As a 2 handicap played from the tips. Unfortunately played while the greens were still healing from a fairly recent arifacation, but was still a fun experience. It was hot so I found it very accommodating how they had water stations on every hole. A fairly decent amount of slope on the fairways and if you miss the fairway the slopes feed the ball into to desert areas. Well bunkered course with huge greens. A great mix of challenging holes along with holes which give you plenty of options, overall a very unique and fun layout.

poor condition for even this time of year

i was excited to play this desert golf course for the first time. I moved from Chicago area less than a week ago and played at camelback course on Saturday. was happy to get out even though the temp was hitting 100. was surprised the weather was almost a non-factor as it is dry. so eager to play the course Phil Mickelson teed off first on, I booked as a single and got paired up with 2 guys from the area. I knew the greens were aerated 2 weeks ago and generally 2 weeks is good enough to have the condition back to almost normal condition. when I got to the course the practice green were really bad. I was hoping the course greens were in better condition. really surprised there was no GPS on the carts!! very hard to find yard markers on the course, didn't know the distance to hit. got to first green--
terrible condition !!! aerated holes were not only very visible, there weren't much grass on top of it....the whole course was lacking grass---fairways and greens !! to top that off, there is a giant power line going thru the whole course as it looks like divides the course in two.....power lines did not come into play but was a eye sore. I did love the layout of the course as it was my first "desert golf" as only seen on TV. with the reputation they have at this course, they need to do a better job even for summer golfers. much disappointed after reading the reviews
last thig----no cart girl----.
