Firewheel is Texas’ most impressive example of municipal golf. Owned and operated by the city of Garland, and extremely popular because of the fair price and number of available golf holes, Firewheel now sports 63 holes since the new Bridges course opened in the past few years. All three tracks can be challenging because they each incorporate a variety of hazards into their designs, including limestone that is scattered throughout the property.
The Old Course, the traditional layout, was rated No. 1 by the Dallas Morning News. Water hazards come into play throughout the design, such as on hole #18, a 400-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot and an approach shot over the same creek, which winds through the hole. Hole 9 is the feature hole, a 552-yard par 5 that rolls downhill. The tee shot is into a narrow landing area carved out of trees, and on the approach you must be in perfect position because of the strategically placed pecan trees. Number 18 is challenging with both the tee shot and the approach over a creek that winds through the hole.

Always friendly staff.
Course condition was pretty good and enjoyable playing golf together with my wife.
Good Course for the Money
The old course is always fun to play. The fairways were a bit beat up and bare in many places and the greens could use some work. I could tell and had to put over many former pin placements. The sand was unplayable on many holes.
Great day for a Saturday
Little bit of slow play, but it was Saturday. Fairways in good shape for late summer, greens rolling pretty good. Golf now discounts are definitely worth the membership!
Great time
Great time and great round. Shot 84 first round at Firewheel. I will for sure be back.
Tough Greens
Most greens were really tough, with difficult cup placements. Not sure why staff is upset with the golfers as they actually keep the courses operating. Placing a cup on a slope is just horrible, lol. Greens were super-fast, and the course was in good shape.
Always good

Needs Work
The Old Course at Firewheel needs work. Fairways are trash compared to there other 2 courses. The Lakes and Bridges Course are worth playing but would stay away from The Old Course. THE only thing positive is that the greens are good.
