Old at Firewheel Golf Park

About
Firewheel is Texas’ most impressive example of municipal golf. Owned and operated by the city of Garland, and extremely popular because of the fair price and number of available golf holes, Firewheel now sports 63 holes since the new Bridges course opened in the past few years. All three tracks can be challenging because they each incorporate a variety of hazards into their designs, including limestone that is scattered throughout the property.
The Old Course, the traditional layout, was rated No. 1 by the Dallas Morning News. Water hazards come into play throughout the design, such as on hole #18, a 400-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot and an approach shot over the same creek, which winds through the hole. Hole 9 is the feature hole, a 552-yard par 5 that rolls downhill. The tee shot is into a narrow landing area carved out of trees, and on the approach you must be in perfect position because of the strategically placed pecan trees. Number 18 is challenging with both the tee shot and the approach over a creek that winds through the hole.

Decent Shape
Decent shape for the time of year in Dallas area and the number of rounds the course gets daily.
Good value
I did the Golf Now hot deal, so the price was great for the condition of the course. The fairway aren't bald like many municipal courses and the greens were actually quick and true. The carts are in good condition with GPS. We waited on a few holes, but pace of play wasn't bad. There was cold water at the water stands, and the cart girl made it by several times. Overall no complaints.
BEST BANG FOR BUCK
I can not recommend this course enough. I have been playing in the DFW area for about 10 years now, and this is the best bang for your buck of a course you can get. Pricing is amazing for this area, course is quality, and customer service is great. This is one of the most laid back, but professionally run courses I have ever played. Will be making this my home course.
Nice Sunday Round
We teed off just after 8a which was great because it was going to be a hot day. Finished just after noon. Fun day!
Great muni
Course was in good shape. Like most munis in summer there we spots that needed help, but its as good as any municipal course in the area.
Great Sunday Round
Course was busy for a Sunday. Pace of play was good. Did have the group behind hit into us while on the green without apology. Course staff was great as always. Conditions were good. The tee boxes could use some work. The fairways were good. Greens were solid and rolled pretty true. Fix your divots people.Really enjoyed the course. Will be back for sure.
Friendly pro shop staff
Great experience at a good price. Despite all the rough weather the course was in good shape. Plenty of drinking water on the course and saw the beverage cart 2-3 times.
Old course
Some trees issues from the multiples storms....golf course coming along.....after all the rain
Trash operation.
I can’t speak more negative of this course. I wish I could comment on the condition of the course but I can’t. If I could give 0 stars I would. We booked a tee time on Tuesday for Saturday morning. We drove from over 45 min away for a 7:20 tee time to find out they have been closed for several days due to trees down on the course. They did not even attempt to contact us to let us know and continued to book tee times knowing they would be close. This is a trash operation and I will never attempt to play here again
Great Bang For Your Buck! Primo Conditions Given Recent Rain
Overall this course was a 4/5 in my book. Friendly staff, GREAT conditions (for a public track) and pace of play was fast. Teed off at 11:30am and finished at 3:45pm sharp. Greens started off super receptive and then dried out/ checked less as the hot sun came out
Haven't played here in about a year and compared to last year, it was much better.
Good value for the money
A few tee boxes need attention but, the fairways and greens were great !
Great course
Relatively new to golf still. This course was great! Had some challenging holes, but overall a great for weekend golfers.

I know you're unhappy, and I understand your disappointment. But, you know that there was a storm a day or two before your tee time that hit the DFW area with winds nearing 100 mph and left almost a million people without power and most with property damage like downed trees. It was definitely an oversight for the staff not to contact you, but your own common sense should have told you to check to see if the course was open before making the drive. I urge you to give the course a try under normal circumstances.
