Squaw Valley Golf Course - Apache Links Course

About
The original Squaw Valley course, Apache Links, opened in 1992–a Jeff Brauer design that is open on the front and more densely wooded on the back. Brauer’s work involved bringing in dirt to provide some mounding to the flat terrain, and he placed the course along a scenic creek that comes into play, mostly on the back.
No. 9 is the best hole on the front because of its split fairway. Macho men can go for the green by aiming over the lake–otherwise it plays a pedestrian 362 yards if you choose the left side, where it doglegs around the lake.
On the back, Nos. 15 and 16 are back-to-back par 4s that you’ll be glad to get out of the way. The 15th rolls 462 yards and doglegs right, requiring a tee shot over the creek. The long approach is especially challenging due to the long row of trees at the corner of the green. Hole 16 features an elevated green above Squaw Creek. Play for position off the tee because the hole is not long.

Always Worth the Drive
I know this course gets a good bit of traffic from Ft Worth and even further & it's well deserved. Layout is exceptional, course condition was good as were the greens. I always look fwd to the 2-3 times I play this track. It is definitely worth it!
Greens are horrible
Course conditions were awful. Greens have linear cuts. Won’t play the links for awhile

Green conditions
The greens were in rough shape with linear cuts on many of the front greens. Lots of issues including being extremely slow.

Not the old Squaw 😐
Two courses, both are fun layouts but course conditions have suffered the past 2 years and it is no longer the hidden jewel it used to be. Unknown if the County Commissioner’s that control the purse strings will apply the resources needed to restore Squaw Valley to its former state.

Greens
The pace of play was very slow they allowed a five some and it was pain the entire round. Greens were rough shape

Great Course that is degrading
One of my favorite courses in the area but they need to put some money into fixing up the greens. On most of the greens at least 1/3rd have no grass and have major bald/sand patches I'm. Still a top tier course

Have play the both courses for 15 yrs. They’ve been worth the drive from the Metroplex. This time quite different. The Links course that I played was not in good shape, both fairways and especially the greens. I sure hope that soon they get back to their previous standards.

Greens have zebra stripes
Beautiful day and pace of play was 4:25 with a threesome. Front 9 played in 2 hours. Starter said just join a group but i played on my scheduled tee time. This policy of allowing people to just tee off could really slow down play. Course is greening up and tee boxes are still overplayed. Greens had long lines cut into each one so had to guess what bounce you would get. Still no water on the course and driving range was nice. Overall maybe a little overpriced for the current quality.

Awesome course
First time at the links course. Loved the challenge there’s a nice assortment of hills bunkers and water hazards that pose a new challenge on every hole. I was blown away by the condition of the course. We will definitely be returning soon to play the lakes course.
