About
The original Squaw Valley course, Apache Links, opened in 1992–a Jeff Brauer design that is open on the front and more densely wooded on the back. Brauer’s work involved bringing in dirt to provide some mounding to the flat terrain, and he placed the course along a scenic creek that comes into play, mostly on the back.
No. 9 is the best hole on the front because of its split fairway. Macho men can go for the green by aiming over the lake–otherwise it plays a pedestrian 362 yards if you choose the left side, where it doglegs around the lake.
On the back, Nos. 15 and 16 are back-to-back par 4s that you’ll be glad to get out of the way. The 15th rolls 462 yards and doglegs right, requiring a tee shot over the creek. The long approach is especially challenging due to the long row of trees at the corner of the green. Hole 16 features an elevated green above Squaw Creek. Play for position off the tee because the hole is not long.

Windy day
Course is in pretty good condition for cold and windy day. Greens were slow and pace of play was good until the back 9. Groups of 5 should not be allowed on courses due to their extremely slow play. There is still no water on the course and the driving range balls are usually covered in dirt. Overall it’s a nice course and facility.

Squaw Valley could be better
Still no water on the course and pace of play still over 5 hours. Pro shop didn’t seem to care and lack of water on the course is an easy fix. Course overall in descent shape but tee boxes could be better kept up.

Definitely a treat
I played the links course today and it was awesome! Short and not too challenging, it makes for a great day. The greens were excellent, tee boxes were all soft and free of bugs and weeds, fairways were lush and cut to a great height. True links style feel, and the layout was fun and interesting. I saw some bad reviews about the lakes course and based off of what I saw on the links course it seems hard to believe. I hope to go back soon!

Great course
Pace of play was slow but not as bad as some courses also had a couple tournaments so to be expected.

Where is the Beverage Cart?
Squaw Valley is a great course, Links or Lakes! The only thing they need is a full time beverage cart service. They still do not have water on the course and if the beverage cart doesn’t run like yesterday you can get pretty parched by the end of a round. All the more reason to always bring a cooler with your own Gatorades!
