About
The original Squaw Valley course, Apache Links, opened in 1992–a Jeff Brauer design that is open on the front and more densely wooded on the back. Brauer’s work involved bringing in dirt to provide some mounding to the flat terrain, and he placed the course along a scenic creek that comes into play, mostly on the back.
No. 9 is the best hole on the front because of its split fairway. Macho men can go for the green by aiming over the lake–otherwise it plays a pedestrian 362 yards if you choose the left side, where it doglegs around the lake.
On the back, Nos. 15 and 16 are back-to-back par 4s that you’ll be glad to get out of the way. The 15th rolls 462 yards and doglegs right, requiring a tee shot over the creek. The long approach is especially challenging due to the long row of trees at the corner of the green. Hole 16 features an elevated green above Squaw Creek. Play for position off the tee because the hole is not long.

Greens have zebra stripes
Beautiful day and pace of play was 4:25 with a threesome. Front 9 played in 2 hours. Starter said just join a group but i played on my scheduled tee time. This policy of allowing people to just tee off could really slow down play. Course is greening up and tee boxes are still overplayed. Greens had long lines cut into each one so had to guess what bounce you would get. Still no water on the course and driving range was nice. Overall maybe a little overpriced for the current quality.
Awesome course
First time at the links course. Loved the challenge there’s a nice assortment of hills bunkers and water hazards that pose a new challenge on every hole. I was blown away by the condition of the course. We will definitely be returning soon to play the lakes course.

The man that checked us in at the pro shop was rude, never smiled. The staff at the bar & grill was very polite, very helpful & had smiling faces. Wonderful service from the bar & grill staff. Food was really good.

Nice Condition
Course was in good condition for winter play. Greens were holding approach shots nicely. Nice range and short game practice area. All of the staff were friendly and helpful.

Golf in January
Green grass on the driving range and course was in overall good condition. Tee boxes were a little bare and greens were fast and pretty nice. Still no water jugs and only a few trash cans on the course. It was a windy day but a nice day golf.

Fire the Marshal
Course is always consistent for the amount of traffic it sees. On this occasion the course marshals ruined this family reunion day of golf. They kept trying to increase the speed of play because they were over booked. The guys in front of us kept asking us to ply thru because the marshal kept telling our group to steep up. Took all the fun out of it for all involved.

For over several years of play this course they have not given the senior and ladies tee box on #12 and #14 a level area to hit on (they are ant hills). They are small and therefore are always short on grass (mostly DIRT). An area to the left on #12 and to the right on #14 while the tee boxes are under repair would be ok. When these tee boxes are corrected, I will be giving a better rating.
