About
The original Squaw Valley course, Apache Links, opened in 1992–a Jeff Brauer design that is open on the front and more densely wooded on the back. Brauer’s work involved bringing in dirt to provide some mounding to the flat terrain, and he placed the course along a scenic creek that comes into play, mostly on the back.
No. 9 is the best hole on the front because of its split fairway. Macho men can go for the green by aiming over the lake–otherwise it plays a pedestrian 362 yards if you choose the left side, where it doglegs around the lake.
On the back, Nos. 15 and 16 are back-to-back par 4s that you’ll be glad to get out of the way. The 15th rolls 462 yards and doglegs right, requiring a tee shot over the creek. The long approach is especially challenging due to the long row of trees at the corner of the green. Hole 16 features an elevated green above Squaw Creek. Play for position off the tee because the hole is not long.

hole #12 on the Hills
The black tee box on # 12 is an ant hill. It needs to be enlarged and graded flat. There isn't a flat spot on it so you have to find one off the box to hit. This has been like this for months. I will continue giving this course a low star rating until it is corrected.
at a 15 to 19 HC shouldn't worry about the black tee boxes

This course always delivers a quality outing
Squaw Valley always comes through on a quality outing playing golf. My son and I played Sunday and it was a beautiful day all be it a bit chilly. The course is in good shape even though it is winter. The greens were tough, at least for me. Breaks were hard to read and the surface was fast. It didn't help that it was windy too. Can't wait to come back in the spring and play again!

Awesome
Had a great time. Greens are fast and in good shape. We finished the round in just under 3 hours. It was wide open. Will definitely be back.
Always enjoy the course
Played both courses in late October but not exactly sure of the date. Both courses were fun and challenging and my only complaints with either course were the greens and lack of drinking water. The greens were slow and a little bumpy. Uphill putts were especially slow and the bouncing of the ball made the problem worse.
It was around 90 degrees and humid the day we played and there was absolutely no drinking water on either course. There was a "cart girl" on the course but we saw her infrequently.
The course staff is very good as is the food.. Will play Squaw Valley again and hope the greens and drinking water situation is better.
