Squaw Valley Golf Course - Apache Links Course
About
The original Squaw Valley course, Apache Links, opened in 1992–a Jeff Brauer design that is open on the front and more densely wooded on the back. Brauer’s work involved bringing in dirt to provide some mounding to the flat terrain, and he placed the course along a scenic creek that comes into play, mostly on the back.
No. 9 is the best hole on the front because of its split fairway. Macho men can go for the green by aiming over the lake–otherwise it plays a pedestrian 362 yards if you choose the left side, where it doglegs around the lake.
On the back, Nos. 15 and 16 are back-to-back par 4s that you’ll be glad to get out of the way. The 15th rolls 462 yards and doglegs right, requiring a tee shot over the creek. The long approach is especially challenging due to the long row of trees at the corner of the green. Hole 16 features an elevated green above Squaw Creek. Play for position off the tee because the hole is not long.

Good Course
The course is coming in good, with the greens growing good with the cool weather. Good course to play, pact of play was good!
Squaw Creek Saturday
We played the Apache Course. Greens were rough in places but overall very nice course. There are some tough water holes, and some open holes with nice scoring opportunities with forgiveness. Very nice challenge for the average golfer. Great little cafe at the turn with an awesome chicken salad sandy. Great friendly local staff.
Getting Better
Have this played this course a lot since April due to getting time off for work. Back in April it wasn’t in great shape, but now the course is turning for the better. The greens on the Links Course are in way better shape than April. The first couple of fairways on the front 9 are a little thin, but then the fairways get into great shape from holes 4-18. Glad to see the shape of the course is getting back to its old ways. The range turf is some of the best I’ve seen in a while.
Always Solid
Both courses are always in great shape anytime of the year. Great practice facilities including two putting greens, sand bunker, chipping area and big range.
Great Course in Need of TLC
Squaw Valley is one of my favorite tracks in Texas. The winter freeze did a number on several fairways and greens. Hopefully they get it back to it's normal level. Still an amazing layout and worth the drive
Apache Course
The course is well kept and has interesting features. Squaw Creek runs through it on several holes and presents an attractive site. The Tee boxes are set up so that no matter what your ability or age, there is a n appropriate place to tee from. I look forward to playing the Comanche course next. I'll definitely come back next year when I come back through here. I had not played in over 5 years and thought I would be doing good to break 100.
Apache links
Course was in excellent condition. Best course I have played in TX this spring. Fairways were in great condition, Lies were a little tight. Greens were a little bumpy - weeds. Fairly fast w/o weeds.
I will play this course gain
Amazing course!
I can see why these courses are ranked the way they are. Links course plays very well and is challenging but not too hard that a novice wouldn’t enjoy. The older gentleman that checks you in is super friendly and offers tips on the course. I brought my seven year old son to ride along and when I was done the older gentleman thanked me for bringing him and showing him the game. I’ll be back to play the lakes course!
Not so Fast!
The highlight of the day was seeing a golf all time great at the range - Tom Watson.... In the past this has been one of my favorite courses to play, but the greens made this rating less than stellar! Too many weeds - no roll, always jumping around!
Not the course I used to play
What has happened to this place? I got asked to play the Lakes course Bc there was a “money match” going on over at the links. I was teeing off and saw 12 people gathered on the links #1 tee. How is this allowed at noon on a Sunday?!??
The lakes course sucked. I quit putting after 9 holes. The po was so bad. Not sure what the links greens are like but I would be so mad playing money matches on greens like I played on.
Also, the price is way higher than it used to be.
They do have nice sand in the bunkers

GONE DOWNHILL
This course used to be amazing. Haven’t played here since May of 2020 but decided to catch a hot deal today. Bad move. POA is out of control causing the greens to roll similar to a gravel road. Fairways had more clover than Ireland on St. Patties day. Tee boxes were in terrible shape, some with no grass on them at all. Really wish I would have took some pictures. I’m glad I didn’t pay full price for a round or I would have gotten my money back. MAKE SQUAW VALLEY GREAT AGAIN!!
I agree, the county should be ashamed.

Courses look like a desert
Both golf courses are terrible right now. It looks like a desert out there! Tee boxes are dead, some are almost dirt! It

Lake Side Fun
We really enjoyed playing Lake Side. It was an extremely windy day and this course offered some opportunities that minimized the wind. The pace was very comfortable and the play enjoyable. Everyone was very pleasant. Looking forward to returning!

Typical winter course
Tee boxes bare, fairways dormant, greens ok, little bumpy but consistent. Course always fun to play. Course a little busy because other was shut down for maintenance. Can’t wait till spring grass comes in.
Poa Annua
I really enjoy the layout of both courses. However, the last couple of times I’ve played there the Poa Annua has gotten worse on the greens. I imagine with a little warm weather it will die off, but for now don’t expect your putts to roll true.
