Squaw Valley Golf Course - Apache Links Course
About
The original Squaw Valley course, Apache Links, opened in 1992–a Jeff Brauer design that is open on the front and more densely wooded on the back. Brauer’s work involved bringing in dirt to provide some mounding to the flat terrain, and he placed the course along a scenic creek that comes into play, mostly on the back.
No. 9 is the best hole on the front because of its split fairway. Macho men can go for the green by aiming over the lake–otherwise it plays a pedestrian 362 yards if you choose the left side, where it doglegs around the lake.
On the back, Nos. 15 and 16 are back-to-back par 4s that you’ll be glad to get out of the way. The 15th rolls 462 yards and doglegs right, requiring a tee shot over the creek. The long approach is especially challenging due to the long row of trees at the corner of the green. Hole 16 features an elevated green above Squaw Creek. Play for position off the tee because the hole is not long.

ALWAYS WORTH THE TRIP
Living in Dallas gets real boring. All the city courses are packed since the start of the pandemic. Both golf courses are always available and in great condition for any season. They are a joy to play and user friendly. My son and I make the trip at least once a year to get away from it all and have always had a good day when done.
Course conditions
Both courses are always in great shape and is well worth the drive. I personally live 60 miles from the course. Staff has always been friendly.
Could have been managed better
Course allowed 2 fivesomes together in front of us, asked if we could switch nines and were told that pace of play was fine and we should get back in line.
I Like Links Courses
This is a fun "links" course far away from any ocean. Front 9 is treeless and full of humps and bumps and bunkers. Add a little wind, and you have your hands full. #7 is a fun drivable par 4 over a large pond.
There are a couple of holes where a lay-up is the prudent play - otherwise you're in the junk.
Enjoyable round.

Great condition very enjoyable round. Look forward to next time.
Golf tournament
My civic group has played golf tournaments at Squaw Valley for many years. Steve and his staff are always friendly and accessible. The new grill and bar areas were great for our group gathering after play. The course is always in nice condition and is playable for various levels of handicaps. We will play there again in 2021.
Squaw Valley
Never had a complaint from making the drive out to GR for many years now
Pleasure to Play
Love playing at Squaw Valley! Both courses are equally fun and have a good mix of user friendly holes with a few that will challenge you. Almost always in decent shape with a good practice facility to complement the golf courses. Well worth the drive from DFW.
First time at this course
Decided to make the hour drive to Glen Rose and it was well worth the trip! We played the Links course at the suggestion of my friend that played there before. The course layout was good and with the 15 to 20 mph wind that day it was very challenging as designed. Practice facility was ample and pace of play was perfect, I was most impressed with the staff. Very friendly folks, for me that’s “big” as a result will definitely play Squaw Valley any chance I get. D.B.
