About
Tangle Ridge Golf Club's location near Joe Pool Lake is favorable because of the elevation changes that spice up this well maintained public course. The course offers some outstanding holes, highlighted by impressive bentgrass greens that putt true. In addition to the elevation changes, Jeff Brauer's design features generous fairways lined by thick brush and huge trees. Two holes grab your attention on the front side. The opener goes 469 yards and might be the most difficult on the golf course. While there aren't too many hazards, bunkers protect the fairway and green, and the thick rough lining the fairway makes it a difficult long approach if you miss the smooth stuff off the tee. Tangle Ridge Golf Club's eighth hole is considered the signature: a 575-yarder that rolls downhill off the tee to a creek that cuts the fairway at 300 yards out. The approach on no. 8 must carry the creek to an elevated green protected by two massive mounds.

Best value in greater-Dallas
A bit of a drive if you’re coming from Dallas, but turned out to be well worth it. Feels like TX hill country with elevation changes you won’t find in Dallas along with water hazards, and tree-lined fairways making for some very scenic holes. Staff paired our twosome up with another two, but because we were the first couple groups out they allowed us to play separately. The resulting pace of play was excellent (3hrs for 18). Greens were slow but mitigated by some challenging pin placements. Course in excellent form. Sand is pure in the traps. Grass driving range and large practice green. Will definitely be back and would highly recommend.

Great golf course, feels like a Hill Country course, lots of change in elevation
The different tee boxes can challenge any level of golfer.
Nice wide fairways, and the groundskeepers keep the greens great

Great course at a great price
When we showed up, staff was very friendly and area was clean and sanitary. Once we started our round, we didn’t have any issues. The pace was great, we were visited a few times by the beverage cart and we were able to stay hydrated. I would definitely recommend playing this course, just maybe not in 106 degree weather!

Early Caution
If you plan to book early morning Tee time this course may not be the friendliest. Staff was behind from the beginning. Not ready for 6:30 tee times which led to major displeasure from the members that also had early tee times scheduled. The course was not light enough at that time anyway so 6:30 tee time seemed more of a mistake in scheduling. Course was in nice shape but had recently been aerated. Also had to wait on grounds crew to mow the first few tee boxes and greens which led to more of a backup and more displeasure from the members. Overall I would recommend this course but it would not be in my regular rotation until they work out some things.

Tangle Ridge Review
Great condition outside of the recent green treatment. Clearly they are putting lots of water on the course as both the fairways and rough were in great shape. Was able to play through 2 slower groups and finish our round in 3:15. Perfect pace for a twosome

Not enough COLD water on the course. Only saw cart girl on the 1st tee box and the 9th and 18th green. Since I couldn't have my own water, it was hot. And once we got past the very slow foursome on the 10th, the round was very fast. Other than that, still one of the best deals around.

Great course
Super fun layout for a course that is challenging but fair. Greens were in good shape and the fairways were very good. One of the best courses in the area for good views and challenging holes.

Course Temps You to Swing Away, but Don't Do IT
Very wide (maybe 70-100yards) fairways on almost every hole. If you swing away, that's when it gets you with its many grass bunkers and several dozen sand traps. I counted a dozen around the greens on many holes. Many Par 4's are straight. Some are under 350 yards. So you need to keep the ball in the fairway or your score will balloon. Greens were lush but putt very slow. You need to read the grain esp. on longer putts. The grain can make you look really bad and 3-puts do not help your score. "Lag and brag" is a much better strategy.
After I followed my own advice, I played 7 shots better on the back nine, won 6 skins, and took the Nassau back and total. Nice.

Drinking water potential a plenty
Used a $25 GolfNow promo code that was about to expire. This course is great for a dehydrated player with water bottle refilling station next to the bathrooms available after #6 & after #13 as well as at least 2 water fountains on each nine.
It is nice to have the GPS golf carts. However, on the 8th hole, after driving into the right side of the fairway, I spent an extra 5 minutes walking to and from my ball because the golf cart restricted me to reaching that area of the hole. My ball was definitely NOT in the driving range which runs adjacent to #8.
