OBX GOLF OUTING
Course was short but challenging. Greens were in relatively good shape.
Could use better markings for yardage and hazards. Staff was not very helpful.
It was good vale for the money but customer service is in need of upgrade
Little gem near the outer banks
I would highly recommend playing Holly Ridge! This was a fantastic course for the price. The staff was extremely friendly and the course was in good shape. You will be surprised at how challenging the course is in spite of the short distance. A premium is placed on accurate tee shots!
Why would you even call a golf course
There were no fairways or tee boxes, no water on the course. Hole locations not marked good enough and confusing on a few holes. I glad I only paid $20, otherwise it would be not worthy. It would be good for kids and beginners to practice though.
Looks can fool you
My second time on this course. And while it is not the most finely manicured courses, it is certainly challenging. Short in length, but you better keep it straight. Short 4's and 5's but guarded well by woods or water. Not a course for the "golf snob" but can test your skills just the same. I like the driving range over several in the OBX because of the natural grass and good quality range balls. Check it out if you're in the Kitty Hawk, NC area.
Ehh
Dry and dusty. Difficult holes are difficult due to poor design rather than intended hazards. Most of the course is relatively easy if you are an ok golfer. Greens were beautifully kept but some are very small. I paid $22 per person on a hot deal which sounds great but $22 is about all this course is worth. Might play again if I can play again for under $25.
Hidden treasure
Enjoyed this course overall! Greens were great, fairways really nice , just not enough cart paths. Will definitely return!
OBX
I like the course except for the lack of grass in fairways. At times your playing on hard pack dirt/sand. I like the fact water comes into play on a lot of holes. Just needs some tlc.
Probably worst course I have ever played!
DON"T DO IT!!!!
I have played at a lot of golf courses! This one is probably... wait, definitely the worst one I have ever played. Let's start with the signs. I had no idea where the first hole was. We drove around to what we thought was 1, turned out to be hole 7. The two Pepsi we bought from the clubhouse expired last year! The fairways are remarkably horrible. Long spotty grass filled with sand in the fairways. Greens are just as bad. There is no possible way they can charge $59 a round there! They load tee times up on golfnow so that unsuspecting vistors purchace a tee time there. DON"T DO IT!!!!
Very Nice
Staff was great. Nice driving range. greens were in good shape. Fun course.
Enjoyable Day
Holly Ridge is an older course, but in good shape. Water, water, everywhere. Most holes involved water off the tee, before the green, or alongside the fairway. Challenging, but enjoyable.
Holly RIdge
Great Low-end course. Spend 2-4 hrs for 9-18 holes, some challenging, but most straight and flat.
Not to bad
The course is short but not in too bad of shape. Some greens were a little hairy but what do expect in April. Overall we all enjoyed getting out and appreciated Golfnow getting us a discount. Full price for this course might be a little over charged.
Very rough conditions
Fairways and tee boxes in very poor condition. Greens okay. No cart paths throughout majority of fairways didn't help matters. Needs ball washers, drinking water, and restrooms since one does not loop by the clubhouse between the front and back nines.
The course did not have complete cart paths
Interesting course for sure. All I can say is $10 is cheaper then rang balls! If your thinking about coming from out of town just to play here, don't. It's unkept. Like I said, if your in the area and don't expect much, for $10 it's not bad.
Poor condition-great value
We got the very low price offered at mid-day. That made this a great value. Don't expect the well-maintained conditions you usually see at a Beach course.
Great Pa r3's
Overall the course was maintained, but f you are looking for a pristine course to play this is not the course for you, however if you are looking for a fun course to play without the Outer Banks prices this has great value for the money.
Great Par 3's
Overall this was a fun course to play with some challenging holes and narrow fairways. If you are looking for a pristine golf course this is not for you, but f you are looking for a fun course to play and not pay the Outer Banks prices this is the place. Played this course twice this week as well as Nags Head. My golf scores were virtually the same on both courses.
Great place to build a golf course...some day.
I read the reviews on GolfNow before playing at Holly Ridge but I just couldn't pass up 18 holes with cart for $8.00. The lady working in the "pro shop" was friendly and had a sense of humor. She gave me a key to a cart and sent me on my way. I was pleased with the cart. It was probably only two years old, it was clean and electric. I found my way to the first tee and found out that at $8.00 I had over paid. The tee wouldn't qualify as rough on most courses. Fairways were undistinguishable from rough. There is a power line that bisects many of the fairways. The greens were small and relatively flat making three putts rare. The traps were like concrete. The pace of play could have been even quicker because the course is relatively short. Most of the par fours require only a pitching wedge for your second shot and big hitters can drive some of the greens. There was a five-some out there but they let me through as soon as they saw me. Play here only if it's the last course on the face of the earth and even then consider tennis first. The owner of this course needs to put some money into some grass seed and weed killer. Calling it a goat ranch would be an insult to goat herders everywhere.
Fun Fast Affordable Golf in OBX
Friendly staff and golfers, good pace and fun layout. Low handicappers will be disappointed with the course but the rest of us can enjoy a fun and affordable round of golf by the beach.
The course was good for the price I paid $15
My son and I enjoy the course for the price we paid $15 each. I would have been disappointed if we had paid any more than that. The front nine was in really bad shape. The back nine was better but not very good. My son and I were talking and saying that its a shame this course has gotten in this shape because it could be a very nice course with some hard work. In fact we feel like they should shut the course down for one year and try to bring it back. Even as bad as it was I would recommend it for the average to below average player if you could play for the price we did.
