About
Southwyck is new and improved after re-opening in the summer of 2002 with new fairways, tees, and greens. This links-style track features prominent bunkering, water in play on 14 holes, and is known for its difficult back nine.
Southwyck first opened in 1988 on the prairie lands east of downtown Houston-at the time, it was the only true links-style track in the area. Like the Scottish courses, this track is susceptible to the wind, and Kavanaugh did a nice job of confusing golfers off the tee, as it's difficult to determine exactly where you want to hit the shot. Depth perception is difficult, and local knowledge is helpful.
The course once served as the home course for the famous University of Houston golf team, and it served them well with its difficulty. Large mounding prevents level lies, and water comes into play on 13 holes. Tall native grasses line the fairway and require desperate hacks into the fairway when errant shots become buried in the heather.
No. 5 is a monster par 3 at 250 yards, but the par 3 No. 11 might be more difficult because of the long carry of a ravine down to the green 212 yards away. No. 3 might be the toughest in Houston. It rolls 467 yards into the wind with fairway bunkers lining the right side.
Getting there : From Hwy. 288 south find the Hwy. 518/Pearland exit. Turn left and look for the Silver Lake Subdivision. Take that road to the course.

What happened?
We play here 2-3 times a year. Conditions have gradually improved, and the last time we played here, the course was in the best shape we’d ever seen! Greens yesterday were a great disappointment… to the point we agreed to a 2-putt maximum and moved on.
Has great potential!
Course has great potential and I've played worse fairways in the houston area. Greens I hope we're getting worked on so not in the best conditions. Excellent hot dogs and great eggs salad sandwiches and dont forget chocolate chip cookies! I love the layout of course and open and big it is just needs some TLC
Rough shape
Almost no part of the course is in good condition. None of the greens on the front nine are even remotely playable. Not worth the money in these conditions. I have always loved this course but it’s drastically different than it was even 6 months ago. Driving range is usually okay but today was just dirt and sand.
Disappointed
The fairways have never been great but the greens are usually in good shape and roll true. Not on this date. Fairways are extremely dry and bumpy. Riding in a cart beats you and rattles your teeth. The greens are in terrible shape. Very bumpy and more dollar weeds than grass. I played as a single and pace of play was good on the front 9. At the turn, a group of 4 decided to jump on the 10th tee as I was coming off of the 9th green. They wouldn’t let me hit and go on. After 15 minutes of waiting for them to get down the fairway, I gave up and left for home. 10 minutes later, when I drove out of the parking lot, they still had not made it to the green. This was my last trip to Southwick. There are much better courses to play in the area.

This course is a nightmare.
Super sandy and bumpy greens, bumpy fairways. unplayable overall. i was invited and played for free but i feel robbed lol.
Greens still terrible.
It had been over a year since I played here last. The greens were not good then. I heard they were going to fix them. Came back and they might be worse than before. Plus there has been hog damage in some fairways.
I love the layout and location. I just want them to fix their greens.

Great layout, but very dry
The Houston area has been very dry this year and the course has not been watered much. Fairways are hard and rutted, very bumpy. Greens are uneven and Patchy. Pace of play was pretty good for a Friday. Four hours. The forks and the pro shop are nice and the driving range is convenient. The layout of the course is excellent, but it really needs a lot more water which could be helped by rain of course
Not bad, grass needs to grow in a bit
Played this course with a friend in the morning and it wasn’t too busy, no one really in front or behind us. Finished 18 holes in about 2.5 hours.
Grass needs some work and needs some time to grow in, maybe in the summer, greens were thin and sandy. Fairways on the front 9 were very lumpy and pot-holey but still playable
Not a bad course if you play on a deal, they also give a good discount for military/first responder
No grass on greens
In general a disappointing experience. Greens were really bad and the course was missing any information about holes and where to go next.
