About
Southwyck is new and improved after re-opening in the summer of 2002 with new fairways, tees, and greens. This links-style track features prominent bunkering, water in play on 14 holes, and is known for its difficult back nine.
Southwyck first opened in 1988 on the prairie lands east of downtown Houston-at the time, it was the only true links-style track in the area. Like the Scottish courses, this track is susceptible to the wind, and Kavanaugh did a nice job of confusing golfers off the tee, as it's difficult to determine exactly where you want to hit the shot. Depth perception is difficult, and local knowledge is helpful.
The course once served as the home course for the famous University of Houston golf team, and it served them well with its difficulty. Large mounding prevents level lies, and water comes into play on 13 holes. Tall native grasses line the fairway and require desperate hacks into the fairway when errant shots become buried in the heather.
No. 5 is a monster par 3 at 250 yards, but the par 3 No. 11 might be more difficult because of the long carry of a ravine down to the green 212 yards away. No. 3 might be the toughest in Houston. It rolls 467 yards into the wind with fairway bunkers lining the right side.
Getting there : From Hwy. 288 south find the Hwy. 518/Pearland exit. Turn left and look for the Silver Lake Subdivision. Take that road to the course.

FAIRWAYS ALL DRY AND CRACKS IN THE GROUND BIG ENOUGH TO LOSE YOUR BALL IN
Course is just ok but a staff (female) is not
1. I was told golf club rental is $25 when I called a day before I play. But they charged me $35 for not even full clubs but for 8 and 11 clubs with lots of dents. ( I rented two sets). Rental clubs were so dirty. I asked any towel to wipe dirts but the female staff told me “there is paper in the bathroom if you want”. I asked if they have another sets and she said those one men’s and one lady’s set are all they have.
2. I ordered a cup of coffee but had to cancel because the coffee cup was known not safe for hot drinks because it bleaches checmical. They said it was not charged to my card but it was actually charged. I have to dispute this charge.
3. The parking brake of the rented cart #57 didn’t work, so I always had to find a flat ground to park the cart.

For the money... can't complain
Greens are better than before. Would definitely play again. If BIGG spend some money and redo some of the fairways, watch out. Some of the fairways front 9 is not for the back problem golfers. But other than that, great golf course. Honestly, if I had the money, I'd buy the course, and fix these things, then it will be a top tier golf course.

This course is trash.
The fairways are no good, holes everywhere.
Carts were raggedy.
The Green ‘s were covered in sand.
Pace of play was ridiculous. Everyone was stacked up on each other.
Food was gross.
1 out of 5 for me.
Even if the course was wide open and my group was the only ones playing this is a $25 dollar course at best and that’s being generous!

This course is terrible
I’ve played this course a few time and have never seen it in such bad conditions mind you it was never a nice course but this was something else. Cracks in the fairway big enough to lose a ball looked like there hasn’t been water in it in years. The fairways were as long as rough and hope to god you don’t have a steep angle of attack because you might break your club off the fairway. The greens were hairier than Sasquatch and overall just hasn’t been maintained. Consider clear creek or Pearland golf club instead usually run around the same price but way better course conditions.

Pasture Pool
While the course layout is very nice and hole designs are very interesting, the fairways are horrible. They are so hard and rough that I’m not sure that an ATV would help much.
There are no ball washers anywhere, and on a day of 100 degree weather there was not one water cooler anywhere to be seen. I also had a cart whose USB ports weren’t working. I was unable to keep my phone charged, while using my course GPS. I have enjoyed playing this course in the past and hope to return…after some improvements are made.

Better Than Usual
This round was a pleasant surprise. Greens were well kept, most fairways were in good condition and the overall course was very nice. They still need to limit walk ups or have a marshal drive around to keep pace of play.

Great value for the money. Some great opportunities for birdie. Greens roll fairly true and are mostly flat. Not many trees so when the wind is blowing it can be a lot more challenging. When the wind isn't blowing, it's hot. Bring some water.

Poor Condition
Fairways are horrible!!!! Greens ok but if they don’t get the fairways back the course is gonna close!!!! Not sure what’s happening there but it’s bad.

Good layout, poor conditions
If only they took care of this course, it could be good. Practically bounced out of the cart going down the fairways with all the heaving ground and cracks from how dried out it is. Barely any grass on the fairways. Hardpan everywhere including tee boxes where it was difficulty to get a tee in the ground.

Rocky Top
Both the fairway and greens are in horrendous conditions from lack of upkeep and care. The ground looks like prehistoric times with craters and splitting. Very bumpy riding the fairway.
