About
Southwyck is new and improved after re-opening in the summer of 2002 with new fairways, tees, and greens. This links-style track features prominent bunkering, water in play on 14 holes, and is known for its difficult back nine.
Southwyck first opened in 1988 on the prairie lands east of downtown Houston-at the time, it was the only true links-style track in the area. Like the Scottish courses, this track is susceptible to the wind, and Kavanaugh did a nice job of confusing golfers off the tee, as it's difficult to determine exactly where you want to hit the shot. Depth perception is difficult, and local knowledge is helpful.
The course once served as the home course for the famous University of Houston golf team, and it served them well with its difficulty. Large mounding prevents level lies, and water comes into play on 13 holes. Tall native grasses line the fairway and require desperate hacks into the fairway when errant shots become buried in the heather.
No. 5 is a monster par 3 at 250 yards, but the par 3 No. 11 might be more difficult because of the long carry of a ravine down to the green 212 yards away. No. 3 might be the toughest in Houston. It rolls 467 yards into the wind with fairway bunkers lining the right side.
Getting there : From Hwy. 288 south find the Hwy. 518/Pearland exit. Turn left and look for the Silver Lake Subdivision. Take that road to the course.

Making strides
Greens are looking better , fairways just ok and tee boxes little rough. The carts are rough and make driving and spilling beers quite interesting. I still like the layout and staff has always been friendly. I like playing this course on hot deals. Would never pay more than 26 bucks to play this course , just being honest

Good for value
Hot deal on this course at ~$40 is good value for the course. Some holes have water on both right and left. Green was somewhat fast. Teebox condition is bad. They are not flat.

No drinking water or restroom facilities on the course. Very nice staff!
Played 18 holes without any drinking water stations or restroom on the course. There was a drink cart and I guess you could ride back to the clubhouse if you had to go badly enough.
For the greens fee charged, should offer ball cleaning stations and drinking water.
Very friendly staff at check in desk and concessions!

Southwyck
Good golf course to play at. Layout difficult to follow. Missed two holes because we got lost. Holes 4 and 5. Needs better sign postings for next hole. Also was not able to use golf pass discounts on website for this play. Not sure why not.

Southwyk update
Greens are in average shape. Several have bad spots. They do a good job of placing pins away from bad spots. Fairways are hard and the ball runs. The one place that gets lots of water is in front of greens. Anything short will stick and go no where.

Great everything
It’s an amazing layout, third round there since Christmas. It’s getting greener every week and the greens are all similar roll, some patches where you can tell good work is being done.
My favorite course to book last minute and head out the next day and play for little money. It has amazing holes.

Water!
Course ok. Staff very friendly. BUT WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO HAVE DRINKING WATER ON THE COURSE AGAIN?????

Course overhaul needed
The pace of play is good. The staff is always great. The driving range is always great. There are many spots on the scores were you are hitting off of hard dirt and weeds. Some greens are good, some greens are rough. I feel like this course has gone downhill slightly. There used to be water on several of the holes on the course, but there must’ve been a decision made to drain the water. It has certainly taken away the aesthetic appeal. The value is good, but for another $25, you can play on a course that is much higher quality. I love the location and people, but this course needs some TLC.

Great Bargain
One of my favorites when its taken care of. Most greens were in good shape, about 3 of them had like pot holes in them...but great bargain, love the layout of the course.
