This course needs some tlc

No water to drink anywhere. No ballwashers.No Marshalls to make people keep up.Very frustrating because it has some quality holes.New owners have done little to improve it.

Reviews are harsh for this track. For the price it’s a better value than timber creek and on par with Pearland and other similar courses.

Greens are fast, but consistent. Fairways are mostly good, with some cracks and dead spots, no worse that other area courses.

I stayed away for a while due to last bad reviews, will play here often as it’s close to home and the price is right, especially during the week.

I’ve always enjoyed playing the layout there. But the greens are in really bad shape. Prob won’t come come back till spring

I’ve always liked the course layout and memorable holes at southwyck but it’s just in rough shape. Fairways have always been hard and bumpy but on this last visit they were dried out to the point of cracking with thumb width fissures. Yet somehow there were also weird wet spots all over the course so perhaps some busted irrigation lines? Staff is friendly but it’s not playing like a midpriced Houston course right now. Hope it gets restored eventually.

The staff was great,friendly, attentive and did not rush you to the first tee

Course conditions were very good considering the weather conditions this year. Greens look good with just a couple of blemishes definately will go back .

Busy day on an 82 degree Friday afternoon. I was still able to finish after a cheeseburger and a 330 pm tee time. Rain will do this course some good as the fairways are bumpy and cracked.

Cracks in the fairway were close to 3 inches wide in some places and were so dry and rock-hard that it felt as if you were off-roading with your golf cart. Multiple bare spots 75% of the greens. Way too expensive for one of the worst courses I’ve ever played. I hate to sound like a jerk, but paying $65 for this course was disappointing at best.

As it happened I was paired with a couple of young guys Tim and Tyler, who were playing the course for the first time. I think they’ll be back. They were most impressed by the forgiving wide fairways and lack of trees in this links style course. Of course, being able to hit a long ways, they still managed some wayward shots into the few trees around. Fairways are bumpy and fast . Greens well cared for, predictably slowing as the sun got lower with the grass’ late day growth and exhibiting grain into the sun. We had a great time and the hot dogs and beer were great at the turn.

Course conditions were better than expected, especially with the lack of rain we’ve had in Houston this season. The complaint I always have with Southwyk, since the new ownership a few years ago took over, is they do not have a course marshal. No one to space out tee offs or to ensure golfers are keeping with the pace of play. It’s basically useless to have a tee time, since walk ups are allowed to pay and then tee off when they want to.

The course is dry as the desert in many areas, so if you land off the fairways, there may not be any moisture in the soil. The greens are in pretty good shape, and I made a couple of 10 footers, which was nice. The benefit to the dry conditions obviously is that you can crack some long drives. I wish that the sand bunkers were there, but obviously if personnel and players cannot maintain them properly, then it's better that they're removed.

Course needs work. "Fairways" full of deep cracks which have healed on other courses in the area. Several greens have been sanded in areas grass has stopped growing. The "starter" yesterday seemed lost. He offered little guidance beyond which cart to place our clubs then came up later claiming we were supposed to have paired up with another twosome who had teeded off 2 groups in front of us. My playing partner and I had approached the twosome and asked about joining them and were told their tee time was 2 groups in front of our scheduled time. Re: pace of play. The twosome mentioned above was extremely slow. The appeared to wait until the group in front of them reached the green on par 4s before teeing off. VERY AGGRAVATING. The foursome in front of us had to beginner golfers (based on where their shots went) and they waited on the twosome in front of them. THE STAFF: The woman whom I believe runs the course was very professional and considerate as she worked both the front check-in desk and the snack bar. Surprisingly the course also had a young lady running a beverage in the middle of the week. She was also very considerate and professional. In my opinion, the corporation which owns this course needs to make some investments back into the course. It is a same this once beautiful course has been let to deteriorate this badly.

Pace of play was terrible. Marshall did nothing. All bunkers have been been removed. Other players were not well versed in etiquette and confrontational. Ended up leaving halfway through the back 9.

Greens were not well maintained.

Will not be back.

This course is a complete joke, spend the extra 15 dollars and play somewhere decent literally the worst course I’ve ever played at.
