About
Southwyck is new and improved after re-opening in the summer of 2002 with new fairways, tees, and greens. This links-style track features prominent bunkering, water in play on 14 holes, and is known for its difficult back nine.
Southwyck first opened in 1988 on the prairie lands east of downtown Houston-at the time, it was the only true links-style track in the area. Like the Scottish courses, this track is susceptible to the wind, and Kavanaugh did a nice job of confusing golfers off the tee, as it's difficult to determine exactly where you want to hit the shot. Depth perception is difficult, and local knowledge is helpful.
The course once served as the home course for the famous University of Houston golf team, and it served them well with its difficulty. Large mounding prevents level lies, and water comes into play on 13 holes. Tall native grasses line the fairway and require desperate hacks into the fairway when errant shots become buried in the heather.
No. 5 is a monster par 3 at 250 yards, but the par 3 No. 11 might be more difficult because of the long carry of a ravine down to the green 212 yards away. No. 3 might be the toughest in Houston. It rolls 467 yards into the wind with fairway bunkers lining the right side.
Getting there : From Hwy. 288 south find the Hwy. 518/Pearland exit. Turn left and look for the Silver Lake Subdivision. Take that road to the course.

Weird maintenance
The fairways and roughs were being mowed causing our cart to lose 6 balls because mown grass was in big piles. Don’t know why they waited so long to mow for asi it had been several days since rain

Finally…no humidity.
The greens were pretty good as were the fairways. I enjoyed the hot dog and beer at the turn that they kept warm for me…considering it was after 5 pm. I did lose a few golf balls in the heavy rough. I find this course and it’s facilities suits me. It’s clear to me the clubhouse, golf carts, and greens get a a lot of TLC.

Course is a Good place to play for a low price
Play here routinely, definitely has potential to be a lot better, but not bad. Tee boxes were in good condition. Fairways has long grass, rough was not consistent in grass height and lost about 7 balls, that were playable. Greens were better than they have been all summer, but still had brown spots, irregular bumps and uneven cut holes. Fun course to play and practice, but no competition worthy.

Better
Course condition great improvement over the last months. Greens very good but the fairways need much work. Rain helping with the cracks but the fairways full of weeds and no defined fairways and rough. More maintenance needed.

Borderline unplayable
It is a real shame how quickly this course has gone downhill. The drought has not helped, but it is more than that at this point. There is a complete lack of care for the course. The greens are patchy, the fairways have massive cracks, and crab grass has taken over 90% of the rough. On top of that they still don’t have drinking water on the course. Don’t waste your money here.

Great layout.
The course is a great layout. Greens are very small but in average condition. It would be a great course if management would adequately fertilize, aerate, and mow.

Pearland Value
Some good rain has really helped this course in the last week. In my opinion it’s a great value on a hot deal ! Greens in good shape, back 9 fairways better than front for sure. Staff was friendly and snack shop has good options. That being said I would never pay more than 39.00 bucks even on a wknd. :)

Calling this place a golf course is offensive!
This course is so bad that a review can’t even describe how bad this course is, how poorly maintained it is in every aspect! This course and club need serious remediation and immediate attention. Needless to say that I won’t be playing at this course any time soon air even ever again unless I am informed that a major renovation has been made.

worth the price
first time to play this course. staff very friendly. price really good at just $27 for a senior, 33 regular price includes cart. driving range is small and a little worn, chipping area is good, different types of areas to hit from, green in decent shape. putting green is small but in good condition. gas powered carts are older but OK, no features like USB connections or electronic course layout screens. course is OK. no sand, lots of grass bunkers, lots of water, lots of small hills, a "links course" but not wide open like a St. Andrews, still need plenty of pitch shots to get on the greens. tees in decent shape, most are good, some are worn and dried out. fairways also just OK, fairly good shape with a few rough spots, rough is in worse shape the more you get off the fairway. greens were fair at best. pin locations tended to be in areas away from the damaged areas of the green, some areas I had to putt through were dirt, no grass at all. weather has been tough on all the area courses but those places that took the time and effort to keep the grass green and growing are better to play, usually costing more. Southwyk is better than some and worth the price. should come back to better condition with some rain, good greens keepers, and less heat. but like I said, it's worth the price to play right now

Course is getting better
This course has gotten much better over the last few weeks. The rain has really helped it green up. There are still several cracks in the ground on the fairways and it’s easy to lose a ball.
I like the way this course is laid out And the pricing is very good.
