About
Southwyck is new and improved after re-opening in the summer of 2002 with new fairways, tees, and greens. This links-style track features prominent bunkering, water in play on 14 holes, and is known for its difficult back nine.
Southwyck first opened in 1988 on the prairie lands east of downtown Houston-at the time, it was the only true links-style track in the area. Like the Scottish courses, this track is susceptible to the wind, and Kavanaugh did a nice job of confusing golfers off the tee, as it's difficult to determine exactly where you want to hit the shot. Depth perception is difficult, and local knowledge is helpful.
The course once served as the home course for the famous University of Houston golf team, and it served them well with its difficulty. Large mounding prevents level lies, and water comes into play on 13 holes. Tall native grasses line the fairway and require desperate hacks into the fairway when errant shots become buried in the heather.
No. 5 is a monster par 3 at 250 yards, but the par 3 No. 11 might be more difficult because of the long carry of a ravine down to the green 212 yards away. No. 3 might be the toughest in Houston. It rolls 467 yards into the wind with fairway bunkers lining the right side.
Getting there : From Hwy. 288 south find the Hwy. 518/Pearland exit. Turn left and look for the Silver Lake Subdivision. Take that road to the course.

Best greens in Houston right now
The greens have got so nice. Rolling fast and smooth. Probably some of the best greens in the Houston area. Great job Southwyck!!!!
Soild for the money
Friday pace was slow, 5 hour round... The course was in great shape (especially compared to others in Houston). Greens were true and quick. Really enjoyed it, always do.

This course is in surprisingly great shape shape! The greens are rolling like a championship course. I’ve played this course for a awhile and I don’t ever remember it being in this kind of shape! The fairways are in good shape, and the tee boxes look great! Hurry up and get a tee time and don’t miss out on a great green fee with great greens!

Greens keep improving
Been playing this course for a few months now and most important to me is the greens keep improving. I’m getting smoother and smoother putts and nothing makes me want to come back to a course more.

Better shape than expected
The greens were actually in pretty good shape considering the past few years. Were smooth and rolled good considering the rain we got last week. I was pleasantly surprised, definitely good value for the money

Needs a Marshal
I like this course but took some friends and we ended up behind a five some that would not let us play through even though we would get to the tee box before they were off with no one in front of them for several holes. We finally decided to just jump them. We were disappointed of getting back to the clubhouse around 4:45 and the grill was closed as we wanted to sit and talk a while before leaving.

Nice course to play
Nice course to play with lots of water with tricky greens. The front nine is a little harder than the back. The front nine is very bumpy and good shots may go awry.

Great links course
Like the layout. Course offers everything for low and high handicap players. Needs work maintenance improvement. Showing it’s years of heavy playing. Greens were decent. Nice carts.

Pace of play terrible
There was a tournament on the course and my tee time was mixed with the tournament. The pace was extremely slow and it took me 5 hours to complete the 18 holes. There was no marshal to manage the pace.
The club should not sell the times in the middle of tournament.
