About
Southwyck is new and improved after re-opening in the summer of 2002 with new fairways, tees, and greens. This links-style track features prominent bunkering, water in play on 14 holes, and is known for its difficult back nine.
Southwyck first opened in 1988 on the prairie lands east of downtown Houston-at the time, it was the only true links-style track in the area. Like the Scottish courses, this track is susceptible to the wind, and Kavanaugh did a nice job of confusing golfers off the tee, as it's difficult to determine exactly where you want to hit the shot. Depth perception is difficult, and local knowledge is helpful.
The course once served as the home course for the famous University of Houston golf team, and it served them well with its difficulty. Large mounding prevents level lies, and water comes into play on 13 holes. Tall native grasses line the fairway and require desperate hacks into the fairway when errant shots become buried in the heather.
No. 5 is a monster par 3 at 250 yards, but the par 3 No. 11 might be more difficult because of the long carry of a ravine down to the green 212 yards away. No. 3 might be the toughest in Houston. It rolls 467 yards into the wind with fairway bunkers lining the right side.
Getting there : From Hwy. 288 south find the Hwy. 518/Pearland exit. Turn left and look for the Silver Lake Subdivision. Take that road to the course.

Pace of play
Pace of play was terrible Quit after nine holes Back up of two groups at every tee box

The course is kept in good shape. I find that 25% of the time a cart can be a problem but I find them same at all courses. Jenifer the manager is friendly and ablidging. Seems always to have something nice too say

Nice track
I’ve always liked the layout. Fairways and greens were in good shape. Shot my lowest score (80).

Course was basically empty. Had some “hole jumpers” but really no issue. They just kinda popped up around us! Greens were in good shape, fairways nice, and nice thick rough! The course has changed, there are no sand traps and the greens are smaller. Not a bad thing at all as the grass bunkers creates their own issues! Did I mention luscious rough? I enjoyed the day, finished in just under 3 hours!

Fine round.
A suggestion: add water on the course. It is extremely hot and humid and the beverage carts don't come around often enough.

Incorrect Green Fee
I made a reservation thru GolfNow for $26 (Senior Rate). When I arrive at the course and go to pay, I am told that the rate today was $34. "Holiday Weekend", I am told. This is wrong since I had a reservation for $26. The woman behind the counter offered no relief. I've played here countless times (on Fridays at $26 rate) and have always been impressed with how nice everyone is, but this left a very bad taste.

Disappointed round
Disappointed in our round last Saturday. Pace of play was 5 hour round. With a heat index of 105, marshal's should be moving people along. Also, No water on the course. Other courses have water coolers on every other hole. Not 1 cooler. Beverage cart came around once. Course is ok, needs some manicuring. Doubt I'll be back to Southwyck for awhile.

Good shape, poor pace
Pace of play for out Friday round was 5 hours. We had a fivesome in front of us that wouldn't let people through. Their are no marshals to push pace of play. Once again they need a marshall to keep things moving and stop letting fivesomes play on Fri-Sat.
