About
Southwyck is new and improved after re-opening in the summer of 2002 with new fairways, tees, and greens. This links-style track features prominent bunkering, water in play on 14 holes, and is known for its difficult back nine.
Southwyck first opened in 1988 on the prairie lands east of downtown Houston-at the time, it was the only true links-style track in the area. Like the Scottish courses, this track is susceptible to the wind, and Kavanaugh did a nice job of confusing golfers off the tee, as it's difficult to determine exactly where you want to hit the shot. Depth perception is difficult, and local knowledge is helpful.
The course once served as the home course for the famous University of Houston golf team, and it served them well with its difficulty. Large mounding prevents level lies, and water comes into play on 13 holes. Tall native grasses line the fairway and require desperate hacks into the fairway when errant shots become buried in the heather.
No. 5 is a monster par 3 at 250 yards, but the par 3 No. 11 might be more difficult because of the long carry of a ravine down to the green 212 yards away. No. 3 might be the toughest in Houston. It rolls 467 yards into the wind with fairway bunkers lining the right side.
Getting there : From Hwy. 288 south find the Hwy. 518/Pearland exit. Turn left and look for the Silver Lake Subdivision. Take that road to the course.

Really fast greens!
Really nice track. Pace on a Saturday morning was good. Finished the round just over 4 hours. The greens roll true and are fast.

Great greens!!
This was my first time out at Southwyck and it was a great experience! The course is in good shape, but the greens are in GREAT shape! They are fast, smooth, and roll true! The value at Southwyck can’t be beat!

Superb greens
I’ve never seen Southwyck’s greens as good as they were. The recent rains of last month really helped. Also the greens keeper must’ve had them rolled, they were so smooth and fast. The young man working the pro shop never fails to make me feel like a valued customer. The grill has some really good choices. Well worth the 50 minute drive from Katy.

SloooowPlay
No fault to the course, we had a group in front of us that had 2 separate carts & 2 walkers. We understood that they might be a little slow but it was painfully slow especially when you see them fishing for balls when we were on the tee box a couple of times. They finally let us around them on the back nine and we then flew thru the rest of the round.

Could be better
Smooth and true greens makes this a good course. Fairways need care even with ample grass.
Course plays slow and needs a Marshall during prime times. Did have a cart girl which was nice.
Better maintenance would up the rating by one star!

Great conditions, horrible pace of play
I’ve played this course many times and have always liked the layout. However, the last few times here the course itself needed improvement, especially with the greens. Not this time, the greens were nice, albeit a little slow, but smooth. Fairways and tee boxes lush. Great conditions.
My only issue was the pace of play. The round was right at 5 hours due to the course allowing groups of 5. I’ve played with 5 before and pushed a foursome. So, yes it can be done, but when you get yahoo’s with no golf etiquette, this is what you get. I really don’t blame them because they don’t know any better. I blame the marshals, that’s their one and only job is to keep the pace moving.

Greens as in fantastic shape!
Played Black horse north yesterday and greens are great there. Then played southwyck today. The greens were as good and some holes better thsn black horse! Caught myself a few times saying to myself and my friends, greens are great! Southwyck is definitely heading in the right direct. Keep up the great work.

Value
The course is in great condition the greens are good the best in the Pearland area good course for the price the staff is great the kitchen is open every day of the week and even though there wasn’t a cart personal I called the main clubhouse and they brought out some drinks to us.

Have not seen it this good in a long time.
Played here a lot in 5 years or so. Conditions are about as good as it can get for this golf course. Greens are beautiful. Rolls true. Fairways in great shape. Will play again.
