Superb Greens and Fairways
Exceptional Essex golf course, the best around. Great course layout with some difficult par 4s and reachable par 5s. The tees were so good from 1st tee which gave nice indication how course was going to play. Friendly staff and members.
Undergoing maintenance but still good
No bunkers in play, some drainage ditches being added to front 9 but mostly fine. Greens were being sanded so they were fast and straight.
Covid-19: No masks on anyone (staff or golfers) anywhere around the course, lots of people around and lots of members around totally ignoring rules of distancing which is a shame. The starter on the course was over-friendly with advice around the course and kept edging nearer to us while he spoke, a bit weird.
The course is laid out well and its a good challenge, you can't get too wild with tee shots. The greens are difficult to read as there are lots at deceptive angles, take your time reading the whole green! The clubhouse has always done great food at good prices too, if available.
A great course, but not at all friendly
I booked to play through Golf Now the day before with my 14 year old daughter who is a 9 handicapper. We were paired up with 2 young men as we were told “that’s what happens sometimes”. I booked for 2 adults as there is no option to pay for a junior and asked when I got there if it should have been less for a junior and was just told “well you’ve paid haven’t you”. The starter had no record of my name and pretty much accused me of jumping on the course without paying, saying “who are you?”, luckily we had a yellow tag on our bags showing we had paid.
The course is really good and challenging once you get out there and away from the 1st !
Excellent course
We absolutely loved this course. Pace of play was an issue, largely because an elderly threesome caused delays. But we had a great time despite the slow round. The holes are creative and well crafted. This is a tough course. Conditions were excellent.
Beautiful course, pace a bit slow
Beautiful course. The fairways and greens were perfect. Everyone seemed very friendly. Really enjoyed this course . The only downside was the pace of play - it took almost 5 hours to play a round. The starter did mention that it wasn't usually that busy.
Excellent Course
Played here a few times over the last few years, and it has never disappointed.
The fairways are always kept in great condition and the greens are tricky but true.
An absolute must if you have never played here before!
Expensive but well looked after
Good course to play as the holes are lovely, there doesn't seem to be any bad looking holes.
I would how ever say the clubhouse is ok and the price is a bit dear for me. The putting green and chipping area and even the range are great so make sure you get there early to practise.
I would say it is a good course to play at least once.
Best course in Essex
Considering the time of year, Abridge was in fantastic condition and it was very apparent that the green staff do an amazing job ! Fairways were wet but still played well, and Greens were nearly as fast as when I played here last summer.
Our 4 ball were greeted by friendly pro shop team and clubhouse and facilities were exactly as you would expect from a golf club of this calibre.
I would certainly recommend this course and intend playing here again later this year.
Ok
Arrived at the course to be told that the course was very busy and our tee time has been put back by 45mins as members come first. This was not a good start, this also meant that we was only able to get 14 holes in because of sunset.
Waste of a long trip down really and a waste of money would not return.
Very good
Have played here numerous times over the last few years and has always played well and in goid condition. Although this year played particularly well and found the fairways being watered in the hot summer which made a big difference from other courses..
The greens are quick and true and consistent.
Biggie towpaths currently being introduced .
Overall very good and value for money, will return.
Slow play
The 4 ball
In front of us had no etiquette and would not let us through. There needed to be a Marshall for slow play.
Great course
£64 for a 4 ball we got spoilt
Course in great condition can’t wait to play again
What has happened to this Club?
I played here a year ago with my son and we raved about it, as the course layout is good with beautiful views over the Essex countryside but the course was in pristine condition then.
A year later and we were most disappointed and in fact embarassed, as we had invited a friend from Australia to a course that we said would impress him only to be sorely let down. The overall maintenance of the place is shocking with the clubhouse and surrounds in need of some serious renovation, the fairways and rough not being cut regularly enough and the greens possibly the worst I have played on in the UK.
Either this Golf Club is close to going into liquidation or they have some serious management issues, I will not being playing here again.
Treating Green
Other than the greens being treated the course was it great condition. Will leave it a couple of weeks before I go back and hopefully they will have the greens back in their usual great condition
