Worst course I’ve ever played !!

One hole closed, one temporary green, 16 greens that looked as if maintained by a Flymo - hotel being refurbished, clearly at the expense of maintaining the course !! How GolfNow can advertise this at £20 is beyond me.

Having not played the course before I was looking forward to the round, major disappointment, will certainly not be returning - lesson learnt, read previous reviews before booking !!

A lot going on

I would describe Aldwark Manor golf course as a typical hotel course. Nice but no great excitement. Lots of trees being cut down around the hotel when we played and major building work at the hotel itself spoilt a few of the closing holes. The 3rd was not being played and the 15th was on a temp green (which we were not told about). A pity because it is a great par 3 to a green in front of the hotel. Although running along the river Ure for some of the course you don’t get a real feel for that, as trees hide a lot of the views. Some of the greens were not in great shape (some seriously patchy area that you couldn’t putt over) and there was no consistent speed. Having said all that there are some nice holes. The long par 4 7th that does go along the riverside is a hard test as is the 8th par 5 where an opening drive needs to be accurate, the shot into the 10th over a lily pond is beautiful. For me the par 5 14th is the best hole on the course. A dog leg drive followed by a long second to position yourself for a chip into an elevated and hidden green is a test of accuracy from start to finish. A nice course and if the greens were sorted out it would be worth another round but only once the building work is finished.

Good course

Attractive golf course in a beautiful location along the side of the river Ure.

Most of the fairways are in gorgeous condition although a few of the greens need some maintenance. One hole was closed due to building work although this was made clear before I booked.

The hotel is currently closed having major refurbishment work carries out.

Have played this course before and will definitely play it again.

Lovely course but one hole closed and 1 on a winter green because of building works, when we booked there was no mention of this. Put a damper on the day wait till its all open.

Scorcher of a round

By scorcher I meant it wa 27 degrees phew.

The course around the house can seem quirky but I have played before so I was aware.

The fairway was quite long but the greens were great.

Hole 3 was not playable. Not sure why at the weekend can only assume that the building works midweek would have plenty of staff, hey ho got to play 1 again

Its a lovely setting..

Despite the fact only 17 holes are open and one has a temporary green both owing to renovation works on the house it is still an enjoyable experience, the greens are not in the same top class condition you find on the best courses buy in general its a lovely course in a great countryside setting , hopefully next time the bar will be open !!!!

Course affected by works on hotel

We have played this course many times and it is a good challenge. Not particularly long but the lay out with trees, water features and the river Ouse make for some tight and tricky tee shots and a need to be in the right place on the fairway if you are to be able to reach greens in regulation. The current situation means that the facilities available are limited but the pro shop was open and reasonably stocked.

The only disappointment on the day was that as the hotel itself appears to be going through some major overhaul, the 3rd hole was closed, the par 3 15th was shortened to a temporary green and the tee on the par 5 17th had been moved forward about 120 yards.

Overall though not bad for £16

Honesty

Whilst work is been carried out affecting the lay out of the course. It would be good to be told prior to paying that 1 hole closed! Par 5 reduced to 300 yards and A par 3 shortened to a winter green. Won’t play here again. Far better courses around the area. Micky mouse course.

Good layout

Very nice course. Some of the holes are tight, not a bombers paradise. They are refurbishing the hotel so a couple of the holes not great(3rd & 16th. Fairways could do with a trim. Greens very good. Overall a good course, guy in pro shop very friendly. Would play there again.

Aldwark Manor

The course is tight so you need to plot your way round. No need to get the driver out unless you can keep it very straight. Fairways and greens in superb condition. Only thing that let it down was the smell from a poorly sealed cess pit! Will definitely come back though.

Great course for all abilities.

If you are very new to the game, this is a must play course, it is quite short as from the yellow tees it is 5999 yards however the length is backed up by tight fairways which are hard to hit, however it is a good test for all abilities.

Good Course

What a fun course to play. The scenery is amazing on a sunny day and the course lay out complex but fun. Very narrow in parts, but that adds to the drama right? My only criticism is that there were a lot of pitch marks unrepared on the greens.

Perhaps some better attention by the members would help
