Its a lovely setting..
Despite the fact only 17 holes are open and one has a temporary green both owing to renovation works on the house it is still an enjoyable experience, the greens are not in the same top class condition you find on the best courses buy in general its a lovely course in a great countryside setting , hopefully next time the bar will be open !!!!
Course affected by works on hotel
We have played this course many times and it is a good challenge. Not particularly long but the lay out with trees, water features and the river Ouse make for some tight and tricky tee shots and a need to be in the right place on the fairway if you are to be able to reach greens in regulation. The current situation means that the facilities available are limited but the pro shop was open and reasonably stocked.
The only disappointment on the day was that as the hotel itself appears to be going through some major overhaul, the 3rd hole was closed, the par 3 15th was shortened to a temporary green and the tee on the par 5 17th had been moved forward about 120 yards.
Overall though not bad for £16
Honesty
Whilst work is been carried out affecting the lay out of the course. It would be good to be told prior to paying that 1 hole closed! Par 5 reduced to 300 yards and A par 3 shortened to a winter green. Won’t play here again. Far better courses around the area. Micky mouse course.
Good layout
Very nice course. Some of the holes are tight, not a bombers paradise. They are refurbishing the hotel so a couple of the holes not great(3rd & 16th. Fairways could do with a trim. Greens very good. Overall a good course, guy in pro shop very friendly. Would play there again.
Aldwark Manor
The course is tight so you need to plot your way round. No need to get the driver out unless you can keep it very straight. Fairways and greens in superb condition. Only thing that let it down was the smell from a poorly sealed cess pit! Will definitely come back though.
Great course for all abilities.
If you are very new to the game, this is a must play course, it is quite short as from the yellow tees it is 5999 yards however the length is backed up by tight fairways which are hard to hit, however it is a good test for all abilities.
Good Course
What a fun course to play. The scenery is amazing on a sunny day and the course lay out complex but fun. Very narrow in parts, but that adds to the drama right? My only criticism is that there were a lot of pitch marks unrepared on the greens.
Perhaps some better attention by the members would help
Away day
Pro very helpful , for February course very good, greens in particular . 34 putts. Yay. Food & service vey poor in Hôtel. Sun shone as well. Great day out apart from the catering.
Great course
For January it was dry no plugged shots , the course is varied and not overly long , greens in good condition for the time of year , it was very enjoyable we had heard it was a tight course but we did not think so the fairways were not too narrow , I never like finishing on a par 3 but that's a minor point overall really enjoyable.we will be back pretty soon .thanks
Enjoyable and challenging course
Very good days golf in an excellent setting with beautiful scenery and challenging holes..
One very minor criticism is that a couple of the winter tees were uneven.
Really enjoyed the round and can’t wait to return .
Why haven't we found this before?
With my regular golf partner in Teeside and me in Wakefield, we have tried quite a few courses in the middle. Not sure why we hadn't picked up on this one before but we will definitely be back even though it is a bit of a fiddly drive from the A1. Very friendly staff and local golfers made us welcome. The course was in great nick with greens running true. It's a tight course with wayward drives punished and prior knowledge of holes would definitely help with many shots, In one or two areas the drives threaten other fairways and golfers and several of the par 3s are frustrating with trees allowing almost no direct route to the pin!! However a few frustrations didn't spoil a very enjoyable round of golf and visit here in general. Nice views of Yorkshire countryside and the river at places as well. We will be back but sadly might have to wait to the spring now.
Excellent course even if a little windy!
Excellent course, some challenging holes! Some narrow in places so don’t go wild off the tee, play conservatively. Greens were in very good condition! I will be playing here again soon!
Great value, great course
Course in excellent condition, even after the current hot weather the greens were in very good nick.
Every hole is different and brings its own challenges, really makes you think about course management.
Very enjoyable, thank you!
great course
me and my mates love this place!
great course for middle to high handicaps like myself
Great round, great hot deal price
I decided to play at Aldwark due to the bad weather preventing our group playing at our home course which was closed. Despite its location close to a river and being low lying the ground was surprisingly dry and unfrozen. The club professional who I spoke to when I arrived was very friendly and helpful. The course was virtually empty which was a surprise. At the price I paid the round was a bargain.
Very challenging target golf but a fantastic experience
This is a real gem! It is not overly long but the layout makes this one of the best but hardest rounds I have had. Trees in the middle of the fairway, obscured greens, water and bunkers. Hit straight and precisely you will do well. Stray and you will probably find the ball but trees will block your path to the green. The 14 th hole is just terrifying with little fairway to hit and water running along one side and trees the other and so narrow .
Please don't be put off as this is a cracker. Just expect a tough round.
The pro was great. Down to earth and welcoming. We managed to pay £15 off tee off times and £15 for a buggy which was great value
Just go. We will play this again in a heartbeat!
beautiful course, great scenery
first time on this course, but found it to be in great condition, tight fairways, which made it a great challenge, and totally enjoyed it. will certainly come back, the signature 18th is a brilliant hole to finish on.
The course was in lovely condition and as we were out at 8.00am there was nobody to hold us up. There are some very interesting holes but there are a couple which almost share the same fairway so when the course is busy this would hold up play.
There was nobody in the pro shop when we arrived so we went out at 7.50am. I would have thought that if the first tee time was 8.00 there should be somebody there by at least 7.45am
