Pecan Hollow Golf Course
About
One of the first courses in the growing 1970s Plano community, Pecan Hollow started out as the Plano Municipal Golf Course. Don January and Billy Martindale, who had recently completed their signature Royal Oaks in Dallas, contracted with the city to help provide golf for Plano’s growing population.
The terrain here is flat, and the fairways are mostly wide open. January used the standard bunkers, water hazards, and trees in his design to cause problems for the golfer. The greens are of medium size and speed, and the course is basically pretty standard until you reach the punishing final stretch of holes. Nos. 16-18 are all 445-yard-plus par 4s with water in play–one of the toughest tests of golf in the DFW area.
Getting there : From I-75 north, take Plano Parkway east, then exit at 14th St. Turn right, drive a short distance to the course, and look for the entrance on the left side of the street.

Great public course
Only got to play the front 9 due to rain but overall a great experience and I’ll definitely be going back to finish on my rain check. Staff was great and friendly! As for the course conditions, the were overall pretty darn good considering the amount of traffic this course gets. The course was packed today and the pace of play was much quicker than I’d anticipated. The fairways and tee boxes were well maintained other than a small few dry spots which is hard to maintain in 100 degree days every day. The greens looked great besides a few small patches of sand but the were rolling great and much faster than I’d originally imagined they would. The course itself is relatively straight with some bunkers guarding the greens and water on a few but I definitely won’t take away from the course for that. It played great and I’ll definitely be back.
Played 7/29
Always like playing at Pecan Hollow. Nice layout. Greens in rough condition but fairways nice. Great practice areas. Staff always friendly.
Broke 80 !!!!
Last weeks late evening game was pretty horrible because of slow play.. This morning all the gentlemen were out and we got asked if we would like to play through with out having to ask. Senior golfers are just great to be around.
All the greens have been sanded this week but the greens still ran true. Maintenance folks at Pecan are the best. Glad to see they are addressing some of the large patches of damage done to the greens.
Great Track
Had fun, love the layout. A few rough greens and fairways but great value for the money.
Slow Play and lightning greens
5 People in the group ahead. One non player. Unbelievably slow. Got concerned when I saw 3 carts half way down the fairway and 3 people on the green. then they realised that they had forgotten on cart. Quite funny.
Greens are lightning fast but a couple of greens need serious repair work from the winter frost.
First Time
Best warm up area I’ve ever seen… pitching greens, putting greens, driving range; great place to work on the short game and swing. You’ll need it out on this course; Difficult but not to difficult for the experienced golfer. Fairways are fairly tight and hard so hit that driver straight. Greens are playing fast right now. Course challenged me enough to make me want to come back for more. Great shape and recommend playing before the late dry summer takes hold.
It keeps me making the drive from Rockwall to Plano!
I am 57, played semi-competitive golf. former scratch, lowest person round in tourney play is 66. Coming back after a 6 year illness, losing 55lbs, then double hernia surgery and this golf course, a part of my healing process. I play at least 6 courses within 15 minutes and I will keep making the drive back to Pecan Hallow. About 30 years or so ago, I stood in that muni and watch Tiger Woods come back from 4 down during in the USAM while it was pouring rain at Plano Muni.... The Greens have come a long way and are why. Firewheel Bridges and Pecan Hallow are the two finest of the North Texas public VALUE courses in my opinion. Greens that Rival Heritage Ranch! Practice area, above average, staff in pro shop, top notch. Bar area, maybe it was just an off day. Great Chicken Sandwiches and cold beverages. They sell "aiming" fluid there also! We're were behind two groups with some a bit more mature than us and we waited some, but a good breeze and great fellowship made it perfect. I always bring my own water but saw cart girl 3 times i believe. Played with two buddies and a single and we had a great time. Fairways are coming in, so is the rough... (hint) hit it straight:) Worth getting by!
