One of the first courses in the growing 1970s Plano community, Pecan Hollow started out as the Plano Municipal Golf Course. Don January and Billy Martindale, who had recently completed their signature Royal Oaks in Dallas, contracted with the city to help provide golf for Plano’s growing population.

The terrain here is flat, and the fairways are mostly wide open. January used the standard bunkers, water hazards, and trees in his design to cause problems for the golfer. The greens are of medium size and speed, and the course is basically pretty standard until you reach the punishing final stretch of holes. Nos. 16-18 are all 445-yard-plus par 4s with water in play–one of the toughest tests of golf in the DFW area.

Getting there : From I-75 north, take Plano Parkway east, then exit at 14th St. Turn right, drive a short distance to the course, and look for the entrance on the left side of the street.

The non-stop rain has left its mark!

Like most courses in the area, PH is suffering from wet weather and limited sunshine.. About 70% of the greens were better than average for the area.

On this day, lift, clean and place made it enjoyable.

Good greens, fun layout, a little dry

I played Friday evening the 14th, and again Saturday morning. We played from the tips and were never really challenged on distance, but fairways are definitely a must to score well with tree lined fairways. The greens rolled really well. Pace of play is always my complaint these days with so many slow players. Friday evening it was horrible… we left after 16 holes as we would have been 5 hours. Saturday we were the fourth group to tee off and it took four hours. I was a bit surprised the course was fairly dry considering all the rain we’ve had. I imagine it’s pretty rough come summer. The cart girls were friendly and I think they came to us 3 times per round.. not bad. Overall I had a good time and would recommend the course to others, particularly right now wtih all the rain we’ve had and with the greens rolling so nice.

Pecan Hollow

If your looking for a great price and a fair challenge, its not a bad track. Fairways were damaged from the freeze and green wee a little rough!

Good layout!

Good value for average course

Course condition was mostly OK, marred by quite a few bare spots on the greens and approaches to the greens.

Not hilly, mostly wide fairways. Bunkers mostly packed sand.

Favorite course. Greens are best around. Rates are average.

One of best courses in DFW area. Green on Hole 2 is in bad shape, but I'm sure the crew will get it back in shape soon.

Pecan Hollow

Pecan Hollow definitely was in great shape from when I visited, especially several months post snow storm and in the middle of spring. Greens could have been a little more green and would have been nice if pro shop sold cigars.

Course conditions are very poor!

The tee boxes and greens were in bad shape. The fairways were in decent shape. The pace of play was slow. I used to play here often a few years back and going back for this round definitely showed how far this course has fallen! I won’t be going back anytime soon.

Fun Course

First time playing the course. There was a huge storm the evening before. They started us at the 10 tee. Our 8:20 start was slightly delayed which was fine by us as they were clearing the course on the front 9. Guys did a great job. Staff was friendly. Will be back.

Slow Slow Slow..5 Hrs

Well tee time on Sunday at 10:00... already 30 min behind. Starter has no clue what he is doing. Also, they turn away singles on the weekend, so if you golf alone (I do 50% of the time) no room for you here. Cart girl was nice, only thing to cheer up the 5 hr round.
