Rating 73.5

One of the first courses in the growing 1970s Plano community, Pecan Hollow started out as the Plano Municipal Golf Course. Don January and Billy Martindale, who had recently completed their signature Royal Oaks in Dallas, contracted with the city to help provide golf for Plano’s growing population.

The terrain here is flat, and the fairways are mostly wide open. January used the standard bunkers, water hazards, and trees in his design to cause problems for the golfer. The greens are of medium size and speed, and the course is basically pretty standard until you reach the punishing final stretch of holes. Nos. 16-18 are all 445-yard-plus par 4s with water in play–one of the toughest tests of golf in the DFW area.

Getting there : From I-75 north, take Plano Parkway east, then exit at 14th St. Turn right, drive a short distance to the course, and look for the entrance on the left side of the street.

Green Grass

Pecan Hollow actually had green grass to play on March 30th! It was so nice to play on green grass. I haven’t played this course in years, but was really impressed with the layout and condition of greens and fairways. I plan to play again soon.

Hard and Dead

I’m assuming the late snow storm killed a lot of the grass but tee boxes, some fairways and most areas around the green are rock hard. Disappointing as I know how great this course can be. Greens where nice but not much to say past that.. Felt $40 (on Golf Now App) was overpriced.

1st time to Pecan Hallow in several years

It's been several years since I've played this course. Overall, course is in good shape. Greens were pretty smooth and rolled straight, very few divots or ball marks. Like other courses around DFW, several of the tee boxes are pretty torn up here. They're definitely getting a lot of play and it's taking it's toll on the tee boxes. Carts with GPS is a nice touch.

Some play slow

We had an 8-some 3 groups in front of us, and the 2 groups behind them were playing till everyone holed out.

This equals very very slow play.

Called the front office twice to get the marshal out to warn them but no one came out.

Great value...

But they book too many tee times so expect a 5 hour round.

Hidden gem

Staff was super nice even though we’re all dealing with Covid 19. Fairways were thin, due to winter, but does make your drives go longer when you hit them. Sand traps were immaculate. I’d play this course ever week if I didn’t live 50 miles from it. Lol

Very Nice Muni

Plano has done a great job of keeping the course in shape for Winter play. Greens were bit fast for our taste, but rolled vey smoothly. Will definitely play again.
