Fantastic course
Where do I start:
Staff friendly and informative. First time playing here and the lads at the desk told us about all the course info and practice areas:
- putting green in great condition
- chipping green fantastic
- tee boxes are beautifully looked after
- fairways in great condition
- greens play smooth
- what stood out to me was the rough. Best rough I’ve ever played. Nice and deep and cut evenly but easy to get club under and played pure.
- bunkers really soft
- halfway house really nice
£30 for 18 holes is great value
Great course with brutal rough
Needed to be straight and on the fairways as semi rough and rough were brutal l.
Only needed to be a yard off the fairway to have punishing next shot. Admittedly we were advised by the course pro that the course was being setup for the first major of the season.
Made it challenging but would not stop me returning to the course.
Off now to ice my wrists and recover!!!
Lovely course but slow play
We really enjoyed playing this course despite the inclement weather. It’s a long walk and unfortunately the pace of play was very slow taking 4.45 minutes. The presentation of the course is excellent with good greens and amazing fairways, the rough is challenging particularly when wet. Friendly welcome from the staff and good facilities on what is a lovely setting and property.
Beautiful course in summer
Beautiful course in stunning scenery but sadly nearly unplayable due to rain .
Ive played in all seasons and weather but they should have closed the course as it was a mud bath . The fairways are being ruined as you left foot prints all over due to everything being waterlogged making it a nightmare to play . How or why it was open is amazing . Greens were good but everything else was underwater .
Best course I have played to date!
Not sure how I can sum up my feelings from playing on Saturday but what a fantastic course! Serious value for money at the Astbury. Everything was perfect, a course I will be returning to very regularly going forward! Wow!
Great course to visit which won't break the vank
Went here as a trip out for a day's golf, we choose here as it was fairly close to home, it was reasonably priced and I'd never played here before. I booked online through the golfnow website which was straightforward though I was annoyed that we had to pay £10 extra as we were only 2.
We arrive through the grand gates and driveway which certainly gives a great first impression and the clubhouse continues the initial grand feel of the place. We checked in at the pros shop and made the quite long walk around to the first tee passed a very nice looking half way cafe which we would visit later.
The course is quite hilly in parts but wonderfully presented, the tees were in excellent condition and the greens were very fast. It is a very hot and dry summer this year, but the course was very green throughout.
I birdied the final tricky par 3 over a lake to round off an excellent day. I would certainly like to play here again some day.
Great
Fantastic course and well worth playing , will be going back
Round of Golf with mates
Course in very good condition. Worth £30 we paid. Staff friendly & bacon roll (paid for separately) was very good. Will play again at the right price.
Lovely course in great condition - spoilt by slow play
Played here years ago and it has matured well. Course conditions were great for the time of year as the growing season begins. The off course facilities were great and the welcome friendly. The course was quiet but for a group of 30-40 who slowed myself and others, in front and behind down, to less than a snails pace - front 9 1:30 back nine 2:45. Although this is not the Astburys fault maybe remind groups of pace of play when booking in and make them aware to let others through and possibly put a course Marshall out. I will return and hopefully not for such a long back 9.
jb
Very friendly staff. House in good condition for early season. Played as a 1 ball and not significantly held up. Will definitely play again.
Bargain
Lovely 1st time visit. Club shop pro very welcoming and as soon as he knew it was our first time preceeded to give us all the hints on where to play and not too. Showed us where you go for 1st tee and was there to greet us at the end to ask how it went.
Course is very open but as no wind today, not an issue. Fairways were in good condition, rough cut down (very different prospect in summer i imagine). Greens are already quick. Dread to think how fast they will get!
£20 each.... absolute bargain!
Definitely return.
Great Course
We had a fantastic time playing The Astbury. We played at the beginning of January when it was freezing cold and icy. The course was in great condition, a really interesting layout and beautifully kept. Never too wet even though it was winter and we had loads of fun. All the staff were incredibly friendly and personable and the food in the clubhouse is absolutely fantastic. All for a really reasonable price. We'll be back again soon.
A hidden gem
Having played this a great number of times in the past i have always enjoyed playing this course. The off course facilities are significantly improved and the greens are absolutely brilliant(but try and stay below the hole with your approach). The halfway hut is absolutely fantastic and the course was in great condition even with the rain showers that we had. You have to keep it in the fairway though, find the rough and you will need plenty of golf balls.
What a gem
Immaculate tee to green, best kept course I’ve played in this country for years. Friendly staff in the pro shop. Even though we were running late it wasn’t an issue.
