Little gem
Really loved playing this links course.
Some very tricky holes but was really enjoyable.
Would advise getting a buggy as this helps with the blind holes so at least you can have a look at the flag!!! Bar etc was closed so unable comment on this.
Use a buggy
We played as a couple, without a buggy and on a slightly misty day. Though there are many poles in place to guide you and photos describing what is over the hill we found that there were simply more blind tee shots than we wanted so we found it hard and perplexing, yes if we played again we’d have a better idea it’s true.
The scenery was amazing in between the foggy bits and the two elevated tees shooting over the fairway for the first hole are equally fun and tricky, the overall course condition was very fair for the hot weather we had.
I would have enjoyed eating before playing and having a beer after but food wasn’t an option and the bar shut at 4pm.
I wouldn’t rush back.
Disappointed
Greens in poor condition and layout of the course was not very good. Overall a very disappointing experience. The staff were great and views were good though
Holiday golf
Really enjoyed playing this course, it is very hilly and yes, there are a number of blind tee shots. But it’s a challenging course with some excellent holes, the greens were in great condition and the views from the cliff tops were beautiful. We were made to feel incredibly welcome by the locals an will definitely be returning, although next time will book a buggy!!
Poorly maintained
Poorly maintained l. Tee boxes like playing out at cows field and green soooooo inconsistently played. Overall terrible course. Too add I scored I decent score but just hate the course. SPEND SOME MONEY FOR YOUR CUSTOMERS OR PLAY THE THING FOR FREE
Axe Cliff with a Buggy
Tee'd off at lunch time with broken clouds and sunny spells with a bit of breeze. Played before so we knew the layout. A Display Board is at the tee describing the hole, very useful and thoughtful. Fairways, greens and tees were all in very good condition. Not sure of the numbers but the 8th, 9th, 10th and 12th are long [and straight] - only one "short" par 3 on this course. The 15th and 16th play along the cliff edge and the on-shore wind was gale force as it topped the cliff! Friendly staff in the bar afterwards.
Will certainly consider playing there again.
Challenging little gem - amazing views
Interesting and challenging course with loads of blind tee shots. BUT great info on every tee to help you. Don’t be deterred the views are awesome and the back nine are great holes, especially the last 3. . Course a bit ragged in parts. Sadly clubhouse shut at 4pm so couldn’t sit and enjoy the views after our round. Will be back again.
An interesting golf course
Not the most well kept of courses but it’s definitely worth the money and a good day out. The front 9 is definitely better than the back 9, in my opinion. The back 9 is almost an open field with not much definition between holes, but is still decent. Worth a trip
Fantastic condition
Played for the first time today , was told by the reception that the first 6 holes are blind . The holes are well marked the marker posts and the description on all the tees are really useful. The fairways were in great condition considering the wet weather we have had recently. The greens took me a couple to get the read of them and I imagine in the summer they will be like glass lol .
The wid was up today so the holes along the cliff side you had to play with the wind . Would recommend this course to anyone
Would definitely come back!
Really enjoyed playing at Axe Cliff. Great course with amazing views. The bunkers need work and the greens were a little rough in spots, but you can’t really complain for £25/round. Recommend it!
Happy golfing
Traditional links course. Amazing views. Hilly at times. Lots of holes where the green is out of view or down a valley. Not much water or many trees and the rough was well managed making the course enjoyable, challenging but rewarding.
