Messy course and poor greens
When arriving there was no staff to welcome and provide guidance with the course. We then played it felt like the course hadn’t been cut for at least a week. The greens all had massive holes in and wasn’t a great experience at all!
No shelter when it's windy
Car park full with morning players but very quiet starting at 13:00, no pressure at all which is how I like it.
Course in need of water after a prolonged dry breezy period. Groundsmen watering lawns today but already damaged and in only fair condition. Fairways were still good.
Cool wind on the clifftop but bright and sunny so views over sea, countryside and Seaton were exceptional.
It's an exposed course so quite forgiving. Played several times and always enjoyable.
Lockdown challenge
Axe cliff is local to me and I’ve played a number of round there , it’s always good but yesterday the course failed in every way poor greens long fairway grass , it’s a shame
Great Course
Had a fantastic day. The greens had just been scarified so we’re a little knarly. I expect they will improve as the season progresses. Great features on this course though and plenty of hills to keep you fit.
Disappointed in the course condition
Played this course last year and the course was in brilliant condition, not so much this time.
Couple of the greens had divets in them, great course when in good condition.
Poor greens
Played a few times before this review, greens were shocking which is a shame as the previous times they were great . Not sure id make the journey to play it again now
Tough course when not played before, extremely hilly
A fun course with great views
A little gem on a soggy December day., A golfing haven from other local saturated parkland courses. Generous fairways ensure good pace of play. Course in good condition considering the wet weather, greens aren't too tricky in the winter but in fine condition. We were a first time visit 4 ball and got round in just over 3 hours. A few blind shots but well marked out, a couple of uphill holes but definitely not a goat track, it levels out well after 1st hole. Friendly club, would definitely return.
Good for December
Started on 8 to protect the first half and give it a few hours to improve from recent rainfall. Overall the conditions underfoot were extremely good for December. Good grass cover.
No temp greens, but some were damaged by rabbits.
The course is on the clifftops above Seaton and the clouds were either just overhead or came low enough to shroud us in mist. Only rained for the last 2 or 3 holes.
Plenty of room if you don't stay on line but with some quite tricky holes at 16, 17 & 18.
Played a number of times in the past and certainly look forward to playing again in Spring and Summer.
The local course
Axe cliff golf course is set along the south west coastline with one or two beautiful view holes , I don’t know for sure but I believe the club is run by members , they do a great job , it will test your legs this course as it’s a hilly front nine , the greens are a bit rough but still putting is always a challenge! , if your in the area this is a course worth a visit
A fine afternoon
Played this afternoon and there was little activity out on the course meaning we could relax and set our own pace. Apart from a few blemishes on the greens the course was generally in good condition. As ever, got to enjoy great views over Seaton, the Axe valley and Lyme Bay. Luckily I didn’t get in a bunker but glad I didn’t because some looked a little bit rough and what sand there was didn’t look the best. Definitely a good value course and we look forward to our return.
Stunning views
A challenging course which many would find easier with a buggy. The condition is good, greens are a little slow. Some holes are a bit confusing as to which direction you are heading. 2 people asked me if they were playing in the right direction and I had to ask someone at one point.
All that said there are some great holes and the views across to Beer are spectacular.
Enjoyable golf day
I did like playing this here but some holes are a little dangerous being very close together. On one hole my second shot was over a hill and had to play towards a white marker. I didn’t know until my shot was played that it was virtually over a tee box. But as I said I liked playing here.
Lots of blind tee shots and shots towards greens. On some holes it was virtually impossible to stop your approach shots without going out of bounds beyond the green. Greens were long and fluffy including rabbit scrapings. Lovely views though.
Axe cliff golf Seaton Devon
I live very close to this course and have played here for the last 12 months , I first found it on GOLFNOW and continue to use the course throughout the year , it’s not a tip top course , some holes are very close and knowing the course helps a lot , there are a few blind shots hole 16 is classic example tee shot over a brow and a blind second down hill to a small green , this course suits the midrange handicapper enough of a challenge but not overly punishing if you don’t always crack it down the middle, I will always play here and would strongly recommend it to anybody
A good days play
We virtually had the course to ourselves all afternoon. Some challenging holes with good views of the Jurassic Coast. An open course allowing for wayward drives to be not severely punished A few crossovers and blind crests which are easier now that we’ve played the course before. Only downside to the day were the greens which were patchy and bobbly.
