Nice and early! Photo submitted by mikefish10 on 09/21/2020
My 1st links
Played here today in 25C sunshine as it has been all week yet the tee boxes were richly green and soft as gym mats. Greens were a bit firmer but in good condition for the weather. A couple of greens needed cutting though and this made judging pace a little tricky. Very nice inland links course well worth the visit especially for the Par 3 8th Island green which made me feel like I was at TPC Sawgrass Island green!
Blakes hall golf club
Very impressed with the coarse, some good challenging holes, would recommend to a friend, friendly staff, very welcoming
Excellent Inland Links Course
I love playing Links style courses and this is one of the best inland links courses I have played, windy, fast and undulating - as if the games not hard enough already :)
I found the greens fast and true and the fairways in excellent links condition.
Played here at lest 5 times and would go back without fail.
expensive if it was free
incredibly well designed, amd just the right amount of challenging. unfortunately it is kept in a horrible condition, which makes the whole experience hugely frustrating. it took me 5 hours to play 18 holes on my own, as nobody felt like letting me play through (they were more interested in showing off their equipment than they were in playing golf)
Not For Me
Honestly the worst golf course I have ever played, should of known what to expect as when we arrived we found out there was no pro shop whatsoever. Had to sign in at the bar. No signs anywhere about where to go for the first tee, we asked a member at the course where to go who didn't answer the question and warned us to tee off as soon as possible as there was a club competition straight after our tee time. Eventually found the first tee, well what resembled a tee box, no fairways cut in, didn't see a fairway for the whole round. The browns (I refuse to call them greens) were like concrete, surely made of rubble and type 1, absolutely shocking. The 2nd "fairway" had a huge GUR in the middle of it which was a huge mound made up on concrete and rubble, never seen that on a golf course before.
The rest of the course is just as bad, honestly no idea how this place has members let alone a members competition. No chance ill ever be returning to this place. Embarrassing.
An interesting bargain
I rarely play in the UK, sticking mainly to Portugal or Spain for my golf experiences. That does give me an ultra critical eye as I'm used to near perfection but generally pay a heavy price for it.
Blakes on the other hand cost me £9 for the round. To be honest, at that price it would be hard to criticise anything, so I'll highlight the positives. I found it reasonably long and varied, very forgiving tee to green. For March I thought the greens were in a fairly good state and had some nice challenging contours to them. I whizzed around in under 3 hours, although it was Monday mid morning so the course was pretty quiet.
Get yourself a deal on a green fee and don't look back.
I enjoyed this course- slow play
Don't head here in a hurry, with the course down the road closing a few weeks ago they have had an influx and they are unable to cope.
Other than that I really enjoy this course, best greens I have played over winter, can be a tough course in the summer with hard greens.
An absolute steal for £15
Played in the pouring rain, which meant that we pretty much had the course to ourselves. Very open and forgiving course - wayward drives just go onto the neighbouring fairways and there is very little in the way of long rough. There was a fair amount of standing water, but that was to be expected given the amount of rain. Greens played very well despite the weather. In short, can't really complain for £15. This is a fun course to play with some interesting holes.
Great value about money
Lovely course layout and the course was in pretty good condition for the two me of year and the weather we had recently
A little gem!
Really surprised by the course as I have meaning to try the course for quite a time now. The greens were good and challenging and the fairways well kept so any balls off the fairway were found easily. The course will improve as the weeks progress and the Spring brings better weather. In a nutshell, really enjoyed the round and I will be back soon.
Good layout but poor greens and fairways
Interesting course and long enough to be challenging for even long hitters on some holes especially if the wind picks up. The greens where in poor condition and seemed to have some disease [loads of moss growing]. Plagued by inconsistent role of the ball, some greens extremely slow due to not being cut or roled enough and fairways not cut short enough. The bunkers did have sand in them but very low quality and lots of stones which was enough to force a drop outside of the bunker. If the course was slightly better maintained I would recommend it however it was not in the condition one requires to have an enjoyable round.
