Hot slow game of golf

We had a tee time of 11.08, so did 4 others, which made it interesting!! Then due to that delay we ended up behind the back end of a 4 ball society (we were a two ball) that were soooooo slow and would not let us through 4.5hrs for the round in 28 degrees!! Not good at all plus the course was/is in really bad shape. A lot of bunkers are unplayable with ground works being carried out on a lot of holes.

Great Layout, needs TLC

Course itself is actually a great layout, a very open style almost with a links feel to it which would be very desirable for golfers in the area. From an Island green par 3 like TPC Sawgrass to some long par 4s and gettable par 5s, with some nice water features. The club has a good set up with a practise range, chipping and putting green.

All bunkers aside the 9th hole ( just been put in and seem great) are GUR. Greens need to be cut and rolled regularly. Get these two things up to scratch and give other areas such as the fairways & tee boxes some TLC it could be a very good course and attract all levels of golfer. If the points above are boxed off they'll be on to a winner. With the current setup I'm not sure if the club has the funds. From a 0-5 handicap

Atrocious

If you enjoy golf this course is definitely not for you!

Worst greens I’ve ever played on, all the bunkers are GUR and under long term refurbishment, there is no mention of this on their website.

We paid £37 each to play, it’s so bad that even if they gave us a full refund and a free round, we would never go back!

Tee boxes and paths are awful 😫

As a previous reviewer stated £10 a round is too much!

Only positives: Both the starter and the bar lady were really pleasant

Course in terrible condition 😪

A real shame as course is a great layout. But greens bumpy, fairways patchy, every bunker GUR and all look terrible.

It should really be £5-£10 a round!

Nice course but slow pace of play

Pace of play was painfully slow, our round took just under 4 1/2 hrs to complete. The course was in great condition with the exception of the bunkers which I assume were being prepared for the summer. A nice variety of holes, the feature par 3 island green green was a highlight,

Improving

Can see the effort going into the course, all bunkers nearly summer ready, greens in great condition and great to play a course without having to use the blue tees.

Will return!

Always a good bet in bad weather

We play a lot of golf at Blakes during the winter as it's playable virtually all year round (barring when it snows).

Tee boxes are a bit scruffy at this time of the year but that's no surprise, the fairways drain well, the rough is cut way back and the greens are fast and pretty receptive.

Great course but

Great all round course in poor weather conditions the course was in fantastic condition with the greens being fantastic, only problem on the day was very slow play a 2 ball taking 4 and half hours to get round is shocking, that’s thanks to the 4 ball in the club competition not letting us play through even tho no one was in front of them ..hopefully the 4 ball was able to win the pack of pro v1’s in the competition..thanks gents

No sand in bunkers. £29 to play

Nice course but changed layout. No sand in bunkers and they whacked the price up from £24 to £29. Scorecards were printed paper. Staff didn’t want to know. Won’t be playing again till bunkers sorted and price drops. Can see this course falling by the wayside. Far to expensive for what it is

To expensive for what it is

So played Blake’s today 11th November. I’d booked it on line and cost £24. Two mates joined us and it cost £29??? Sign on door, no sand in bunkers so ALL classed as ground under repair. They changed the first tee and the tenth tee around. WHY? It worked better before. Condition of the course Is ok but definitely not a £29 golf course. This will probably be the last time we play here as there are much better courses around for that money. Forgot to say the scorecards were printed paper ones. When we asked why the reply was ‘ that’s what we got, I only work here I don’t own it ‘ so would I recommend it. Would have to be a no. Get the bunkers sorted. Drop the price to around £20-22 and then yes would deffo go back. Cheers

Let down

The course layout was very good and had the potential to be a good round of golf. Unfortunately tee times are book with 5 mins between each making it impossible to play. It would be nice to play if there were bigger gaps between tee times. This was a painfully slow round of golf with queues on every hole. It’s a shame they try to cram so many people on the course. I would save your money and play somewhere else.

Game of two halfs

Course layout and design is really good with some characterful holes. Maintenance let down the overall experience of the course.

The welcome by staff was non existent with no interaction at all and the bar area / atmosphere was well below any expectations.

All could be good if more management and investment.
