Excellent value

Played as a two ball today and despite the recent heavy rain the course was unaffected. Greens were very decent and friendly staff member stated fairways to be cut ASAP due to a technical fault but they were more than playable anyway.

If they get the off the course layout right this could be a gem but for 16 quid much better than it's local competitors.

Great course but still needs work

Overall the course is great to play and I would recommend to friends. The greens and bunkers need more work and the course needs 100 and 150 yards markers. Some of the fairways where long and could do with cutting shorter.

Great value for a round

- Well cut fairways

- Forgiving layout

- No warm up area or pitch and putt

- No drinks, food or pencils in reception

- Tee boxes are worn

- Greens very hard

- Bunkers poorly maintained

Worth it for £12 though.

Overbooked

AVOID! The most overbooked course I've ever played. The pace of play was exceptionally slow, making the course unplayable.

It is what it is

Ground a greens in good condition and staff are great.

No facilities not even a toilet due to COVID.

As I finished two lads eating a fish supper on the first tee

As I started two ball - one with full Everton kit on

Course was bumper to bumper - lots of four balls with learners playing

If you want to have a practice and don’t want to use the driving range it’s fine. Just would avoid sunny days and weekends - every man and his dog picks up a set of clubs and heads there

Great course for all levels

First time playing, and having not played for a long time, this was a quite forgiving and open course to play. There were other players in front and behind but we didn’t feel pressured to speed up or slow, and the layout of the course, despite being split by the motorway, allowed us to keep consistent. It was difficult to identify the first tee due to no marker post but once off we were able to follow fine! Great course and fantastically maintained! I would highly recommend to anyone wanting a good, well kept course.

A good knock for the price

First time I had played Bowring Park and it was what it is - a municipal golf course! Guy on the front desk was friendly and helpful, a few we bumped into around the course who had played there before were friendly too - a few others were clearly jumping on to play and maybe etiquette on holes wasn't quite what you'd expect elsewhere (maybe a bit snobbish to say that!)

Course layout was fine and some good holes - it had a few testing par 4s with water and you had to think about where to put your tee shot.

Could have been better condition - fairways hadn't been mowed so not much distinction to the rough. Greens weren't great with bare patches, etc but passable (again with it being a municipal) as the ball rolled okay. Tee boxes okay but bunkers more like weed bowls (luckily I didn't go in one!)

I'd play there again for £12 but Allerton Manor shows what a muni can become if you put a bit of money and effort into it.

Average golf course

Always liked this golf course but unfortunately through lack of funds and effort it's just getting by .the greens are patchy and the fairways hadn't been cut .shame really could be a nice course.the other thing they could do is stop the free golf after the office has closed.

Good course for a knock

Decent front 9, then back 9 feels repetitive for 4-5 holes. Reminds me of Mersey Valley Golf Course standard wise. Good value for money though, they seem to be enhancing it a lot plans wise.

Could do with a little TLC

Played at bowring for years so nice to see some money going into the facilities with a nice new car park. Clubhouse looks to have been renovated but obviously closed right now.

Course itself is in need of some TLC, many of the bunkers need new sand, like playing off concrete. Some of the fairways need work too, the first sticks out in my mind, was hard to tell where the fairway ended and the 1st cut of rough started. Could still be getting back to normal post lockdown.

Course condition

Fairway was like 1st cut of rough and the greens were appalling all the way around. Luckily we only paid £12 but in all honesty it wasn't worth that. Usually this course is excellent value for money

Decent round on a good Muni.

Very dry and slightly under managed with fairways and greens a little patchy, but this was their first day of opening after coronanonsense , so great credit to them.

Layout is strange with missing signs for tees, markers directions and long walks to tees past other tees which I found difficult...however I did manage to inadvertently play 21 holes for the price of 18!

Enjoyed except for last few holes where held back in a chain of delays due to complete beginners a few groups in front whom couldn’t play or understand the rudiments of course etiquette...suppose you have to accept that on a Muni.

Small reception with a soft drinks fridge, otherwise no facilities, which seem under construction.

Wet weather

WELLIES WITH SPIKES REQUIRED

Played a 3 ball in very wet conditions, on arrival got changed in the car as a new clubhouse is being built, informed staff we were there, they are very helpful and explained parts of the course are in bad condition due to ongoing drainage work. Started the game and found fairway grass quite long, probably due to the weather, most bunkers were full of water, fallen leaves everywhere, even on greens, hate this time of year were the trees shed everything. Greens very wet and held water so made putting very difficult. Parts of the course so wet you sank while lining up to take a shot. It`s good to see that it`s obvious that major work is going on around the course so when the better weather comes back the course will be better placed to withstand the poor weather this time next year. Will continue to use this course as they are trying to improve it, it`s in a good location, it has some challenging holes and the staff are very helpful and pleasant.
