Wow - Can't wait to play it again
It's a great course and it's half price to play. The staff were really friendly and were keen to get me a start. The slope tables are all wrong as an index of 13.6 surely does not equate to playing off 6. Some of the flag locations were a real challenge. I completely agree with the snobs comment above. I'm already looking forward to my next round and I'll work out my own hcap. 3:45 hr round as a 4. Note there is a lot of walking between holes but a buggy isn't necessary.
Great course
Great course to play, have played with friends and on my own. Fantastic deals on certain tee times. Course very well maintained, tee boxes fairways and greens are all great. Highly recommend for anyone, lots of challenging holes and a friendly atmosphere.
Poor condition, poor club house
The worse type of pay and play course with everything looking very tired and worn out. Up to 20 people waiting on tees as some holes were crossed over for 9 hole play. We gave up after 13 holes when we saw 24 players waiting on the 14th tee
Tough Course
In the dry conditions it was a tough course, very undulated and small greens. There was a competition on at the time we played so pace of play was slow.
Brierley Forest
First time playing this course today, on arrival found it difficult to park, not much space but would have been easier if people learnt how to park, small concrete parking in front and 2 more gravel car parks up a lane to the side. Some fly tipping in the car parks too.
Clubhouse looks like an old pub was nice and friendly. The course itself is very good, small walk upto the first tee, tees in ok condition, fairways and greens good and quick. Front 9 is where you can make a score, from the 10th course changes for a few holes, gets tight and you have to think about your shots more, then it settles out again.
Would recommend and play again, we all had a good time.
Pleasantly surprised
I won’t lie,, on arriving at Brierley Forest it wasn’t the greatest first impression as the car parking is a little rundown and the clubhouse and pro shop is a former estate pub, however, the course itself is a hidden gem . Well looked after , good fairways , well signposted for next tee ( which is a great benefit when you haven’t played there before) some lovely undulating greens and a bargain price. If you’re not a golf snob give it a go and I’m sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised, if you are a golf snob then it’s your loss.
Brierley Golf
Bit of a weird location, but that can’t be helped. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Downside no practice nets as they had been damaged and also a risk to the public footpath. Overall condition of the course was good, there sure a bit of confusion about which fairway to o play on the stroke index 1, as there are two together which was confusing from the t box. If played again would be fine once you know the course. Be aware that players can jump on at the 14th Tee. This didn’t delay us but did spoil the rhythm as we had to wait for them to clear the green, I think there is a local rule which wasn’t abided by by the two who came on.
Overall enjoyed the course, there are plenty of other courses in the region but if stuck for an early Tee time, you wouldn’t be disappointed
Very impressed
Holes 6 - 12 are great holes (10 & 12 are up there in terms of challenging holes).
1st time
Tricky course with loads of challenges unfortunately after a bad winter some of the greens are covered in sand making it a tough day. Great value for money got a deal for 15 quid each.
Good overall course for a beginner, like me, great bang for your buck!! Good variety of holes from easy to quite difficult. Would definitely play again!!
Sunday morning
I must say the course is absolutely fab nice lay out good par 5 long par 3 definitely play there again
Winter Golf
So being winter after rain, only 10 holes open and all on temporary greens. So just used the time to practice certain parts off my game. £10 for the round
A Round at Brierley Forest Golf Club
£10 is an excellent value for a mid-week round. The entrance to the course might be a bit confusing, but once you're on the course, you'll find a nice layout with a good mix of long and short holes. Holes 6 and onward offer more variety, with the 6th being a difficult stroke index 1 par 5. The front 9 is 3175 yards, and the back 9 is 2348 yards (both from the yellow tees). The members were friendly and allowed me to play through when I caught up with them. The gentleman in the bar area was polite and helpful. Overall, it's an excellent value for money, and I would recommend it for societies or anyone looking for a good value for money option. Other golf clubs could consider adopting a similar approach to fill a few spaces midweek for an excellent value for money green fee. I would certainly consider playing in the summer, as the course, like many others, probably wasn't playing quite its best now that we're into October.
