Course layout
Whilst wet conditions were anticipated given the recent weather, we didnt expect such a poor course layout. Holes 2 to 8 basically parallel to each other in a field separated by rows of young trees. No discernable difference or features to any of these holes. Layout on back 9 a little better, but a few of these holes also return to the front 9 format of up and down a field.
Calderfields
Considering the recent weather, the course was playable. Very muddy in places, some greens need attention. Though their seems to be improvement work being done.
Good new range facilities
Good friendly course, good new range, complementary range balls a bonus!
Very friendly staff
Played the course a few times now all ways been enjoyable
A deceptive course
The course looks like it should be straightforward - very level, straightish fairways, water that gets in the way a couple fo times and lots of bunkers. However, it is actually - and certainly in late November - a challenge. The fairways are narrow with quite a lot of out of bounds borders. The water is at exactly the spot where the average golfer's shot will land, so laying up is essential and some of the bunkers are reminiscent of WW1 trenches.
Wet And Slow but good!
As a friend and I was staying in Sutton Coldfield I looked for a round of golf on a Saturday but was challenged with a lot of other clubs stating they were members only on the weekend. However Calderfields offered a tee time. Interestingly there is a separate golf shop in the car park opposite the club house and it's well worth a visit, the guys were really friendly and offered good sound advise. As for the golf, the course was in good condition and some interesting holes make you think about the right clubs to choose. The only down side was the pace of play. We followed a 3 ball for a majority of the round who had a couple of teenagers that were taking a great deal of time and the round took over 4hours. We waited on one tee for 10mins which is frustrating. However that shouldn't put you off playing as it's a good course.
Well kept course
It's always nice and quiet 1st thing in the morning so the perfect time for a nice round of golf.
A great course for straight hitters.
I played here for the first time in a few years. I was a member here 20 years ago. The improvements that have been made are noticeable as soon as you enter the club. The course was in excellent condition with fast greens. There is a bit of an up and down feel to the course, with some narrow fairways resulting in players crossing over on a regular basis looking for balls following errant shots. There is a very nice friendly feel to the club with many people enjoying the social aspects. My only gripe is paying £25 for a buggy.
Anon.
I played a two ball about 2 o'clock, myself play off 5 and my playing partner 4. Now this use to be our go to course when our club was occupied by junior comps and society events etc, as we tee'd off all was fine course was in good nick just abit wet from te rain but one thing I must mention is the problem with members, arrogance and blatant rudeness towards us. The two members behind were driving the ball 5 yards behind us every time because they wanted to play speed golf and the last time we played here the four elderly gentlemen behind stole one of our balls from a fairway and told us we couldn't tee off at a certain time. This dissapoints me as this is a very well looked after course but is a public course and memebers are not friendly at all. Anyone looking to play here, I would recommend elsewhere and use this club as a last resort, staff are friendly but the members are some of the worst I've encountered especially older members at the club.
Nice greens. Lots of work going on on the course.
I had heard that Calderfields was prone to being very muddy. To be fair it was pretty good considering the amount of rain we had in the previous few days. The greens were the greenest I've ever seen and were very true. They were rather long, but I could understand why given the week's weather. The course has clearly been improved condition wise, but there is a lot of work still to be done to give it more character. It is very flat and badly needs another par three on the front nine; preferably one that has character. The first few holes feel rather samey. The facilities are very good, however our "welcome" lacked warmth and courtesy - a wasted opportunity! The right golfing brain could take this course to the next level by adding features to make the holes more individual and interesting. Hats off to the green-keeping team for producing a wonderfully thick carpet of emerald grass :)
Calderfields Golf and Country Club
I really like Calderfields, it has a good mix of par 3,4 and 5 holes, some dog legs and some water to contend with. The greens are in great condition overall, the poor 17th has not faired well over winter, but the club is doing its best to bring it up to the standard of the others. You can practice your driving, chipping and putting before your game.
Great greens
This course is very underrated, the greens are the best I've played on all winter *****
