A beautiful 9-hole course - well worth a visit!
I've played at Charnwood Forest three times now so I'm better able to give an opinion. The greens have been kept in excellent condition, despite the brutal prolonged heatwave we had this year.
The views are absolutely stunning. Some of the tee boxes are incredible as well, as you're stood high up with amazing views of Leicestershire, and walking around you see a beautiful mix of ancient rocks, heather and grass.
There are a lot of blind spots so this will be tougher for first-time players of the course, but you'll have a great time, I'm sure.
The practice facilities are good - there are two practice nets and a putting area by the club house. There is also a mini range behind the sheds where you can practice shots up to 125 yards in length. There is a green with a bunker but honestly, that has not seen any of the same love and care that the rest of the course gets. That would be more of an issue if I was going to be a regular there. If going as an outsider, you'd never need it.
Don't let the fact that it's only 9 holes put you off. Admittedly, some of the tee boxes don't change an awful lot, but the 3rd/12th and 8th/17th combinations really mess with your head visually. If you go, you'll understand what I mean.
The ball runs on further than you think as well. Not sure if that is a heathland thing or just because it's built on granite, but you will see slightly more distance out of your clubs.
I've applied to be a member here, such is the value for money that I believe it represents.
