A lovely Friendly course
Being an inexperienced golfer who doesn't drive, im always looking for courses close to stations or transport facilities. Datchet is 5 mins walk from the station, and is tucked away on a side road.
Its a beautiful 9 hole course, but with 15 different tees so you are only playing 3 holes twice for your 18. Some of the alternate tees make for interesting challenges! It was no problem for me to play on my own, which i want to do so not to emabarass myself being put with someone i dont know until im better. It was quiet when i arrived at 8am and as i was early it was no problem for me to tee off early. Good changing facilities as well. One thing threw me though was that you have to take an iron off the tee on the 1st and 10th holes as any wayward drives could cause quite a lot of damage to property. (its a short par 4 though so not a big deal)
The bunkers were under repair but after chatting with a few members and the club secretary after my round over a coffee, he told me that they had been damaged and were being resanded over the next few weeks.
Really liked Datchet, its great value for money, The 9th/18th is a fantastic blind par 3 and looking forward to coming back.
Good 9 hole course
Good little course was in good shape apart from bunkers being GUR will be back!
Datchet
Nice enough course but as it's a 9 hole when you go on to play the 10th onwards it can get confusing with people who are playing only the front 9. Greens are tricky which is a good challenge.
Nice afternoon out
The pro was friendly and hospitable in the shop and got us underway quickly. The course was pleasant and straight forward to navigate provided you keep an eye on the tee box signs. Tee boxes were a little untidy and could with repair sand, greens not long been treated so will not comment. Unfortunately, the bunkers were in poor condition. But otherwise a nice afternoon out!
Poor Greens
I’ve played the course many times, but have to say that my son and I where both very disappointed with the greens this weekend. I had hoped with all the time afforded to the green keepers without any players this year they would have been in great condition. There were plenty of patches without grass and quite a bit of debris from trees. Hopefully this will improve as the course warms up. It won’t put me off coming back, but pray it’s in better shape next time.
Good course
Enjoyed playing at Datchet for the first time, not the longest course you will play but for people like myself just getting back into golf after a while away it was a good size course with a good mix of par threes and fours. Also if for some reason you like playing out of bunkers there are plenty to choose from too as I found out!
Good value
To be honest, the course is a bit boring. Very flat and straight. But for the price it was good way to kill a few hours.
