The Quarry Golf Course
About
The land that now provides a home to Quarry Golf Course was formerly the abandoned Alamo Cement plant. Keith Foster converted this unique location into a challenging layout with a links-style front nine and a back nine that plays entirely through an abandoned rock quarry with walls over a 100 feet tall on three sides. The first half of the golf course features plays through open fields of rolling hills with native grasses and a near absence of trees. Creeks and streams come into play on six holes of the front nine. The quarry pit on the back nine is truly the most unique feature on the golf course. Quarry Golf Course's most dramatic hole is the 17th, which requires a tee shot over a deep ravine that is framed by a 40-foot waterfall.

Two Different Worlds
This course gives you two different types of layouts. The front 9 is a links style course...long grasses border the fariways and no trees can be found. Lots of challenging shots. The back 9 plays inside an abandon quarry. Water and long rough in play a lot. One must hit straight on this tight driving 9. It was a great experience and well worth the green fee. The views are great. The greens held a shot wll and putted true. A must if in the San Antonio area.
Good condition
Slow greens, but enjoyed the challenge. Front 9 totally different than back. Play around & have great views of the Quarry. Good experience!
Great Course ……. Rude staff
Overall everyone was nice, but the man who was helping clean the men’s bathroom was rude. He told me to go outside and use the restroom, then when I tried to access the bathroom he proceeded to push me away from the door. Putting his hands on customers who need to use the restroom is absolutely unacceptable.
Course is not worth the price there asking. I got a special
Thru Golfnow for $57. This amount or about $60 is just about right for the the price of the coarse. The carts are very annoying. But did like the GPS. Portion. Don’t like the fact you can’t drive the carts to your car. The attendants were helpful but I would like to have a choice to use them or take clubs to my car. Restaurant was a bit cluttered and not real inviting to stay for lunch. The pro shop was nice and people were friendly. Marshall’s we’re friendly and helpful off 1st tee. Overall score from other courses in the area would be a 4.1 out of 5.0
Course in good shape. Marshal wasnt active. Pace was awful. Too expensive for a 5 hour round.
Perfect day to play at The Quarry Ridge
I've played here few times but I generally don't play here as much due to high price. I was able to get hotdeal from Golfnow.
I would play here more often if the price was between $60-$75.
One of a kind
This course is full of character, especially the back nine which are cut into an old quarry. The course designer did a great job. The only down side was my bump and run chips didn’t work very well with the Bermuda on the fringes. It’s definitely one of those courses that you want to play again
Fairways beautiful; setting wonderful, BUT
As above - the fairways and setting was wonderful, but the GREENS - oh, the greens!!! They were terrible with the lines from the mowers. No way you could read a put. - should have give a disclaimer as there was no way we could keep our putts down with these ridges in every green
Great public course outing
Reserved as a single and was paired with someone who was roughly the same skill level (lucky). The first hole was a rough start (water on the right is closer than you think and you can’t see it from the tee). On subsequent holes, there were some tight spots but nothing really hidden. The GPS in the cart gives a good overview with yardages (should have paid more attention on the first hole), although I like to use my rangefinder for pin distance.
The front 9 is shorter and easier, but some approaches can be tricky. The back 9 is longer, and a bit more open. I didn’t see anyone walking and that’s not surprising. There are some significant elevation changes, especially on the back. There is decent drinking water availability, beverage cart came by a couple of times, and restrooms are also available. It’s easy to stop in the clubhouse at the turn.
If you play from the gold (champion) or black (pro) tees, there are a few forced carries on tee shots, much less for the blue and white tees. The back 9 also has a couple of long par 4s that stretch over 400 yards from gold. Overall, it was a beautiful day and a nice test of golf.
Good not great
First time playing The Quarry and I have to say it was an okay experience. I can definitely see the potential of the course (the layout is fantastic) but the conditions weren’t as good as I had anticipated. The tee boxes and fairways were in decent shape, but the greens were average at best. Pace of play was great, as we were able to finish in just under 4 hours. After the round I went to the clubhouse only to find out the kit hen closes at 2:00 PM on Mondays and Tuesday’s. Overall, I had a good time at The Quarry and I look forward to coming back when the conditions improve.
