Narrow tree-lined fairways and a creek which you often encounter make Lackland AFB's Gateway Hills Golf Course a fun round. The ninth hole, playing up a steep hill is a real experience as is the elevated green on 18. If you have a friend who is in the military and can get on, Gateway Hills Golf Course a worthwhile option with well manicured greens.
Gateway Hills Golf Course is laid out on 200 acres featuring extreme elevation changes overlooking San Antonio. The golf course meanders 6,900 yards from the back tees with many strategically located bunkers and a host of oak and mesquite trees. Good course for the price.
Fun course to play. Weather was perfect. Staff was great.
Sub-par
Course was in bad shape and probably won’t be returning. Trash and debris everywhere, no ball washers, and upkeep near non-existent.
Gateway
It was a cold day to start but warmed up nicely. We were the only ones on the course for much of the day, this made for uninterrupted play - nice. Course was in good shape.
Rating
Greens were excellent.. the fairways not so much.. wonderful layout
Big Disappointment
As a civilian I was VERY disappointed in finding out that although GolfNow accepted my reservation on a two days notice; the Air Force insisted on 72 hours notice to do a background check on my wife and I. Why does Golf Now accept a reservation 1-4 days in advance when the course management - in this case the Air Force - requires 72 hours notice.
Please take AFB courses OFF Golf Now!!!
Very disappointing, and I'm out money to boot!
Course / Service
The attendant show up at the same time I did, 10:30am for a 11:30am t-time. He said he wasn't opening until 11:30 and was going to hit balls at driving range and let peopleoutat 12.. We had some freezing conditions Thursday and Friday and it was in the 50s by 10 am that day. Not sure who is the decision maker on opening the course but I am sure the greens were fine by probably 9am. Course needs some work. It may be lack of funding. Some fairways show drainage issues and cart paths need some repair. Greens need to be mowed.
MUST BE MILITARY TO PLAY!
I booked a tee time for my boyfriends birthday, drove all the way across town, to find out that you must be military to play as it is ON the base.
THIS SHOULD BE LISTED!!!! I want my money back lol!

Greens were excellent.. fairways were a little sketchy but the course has many excellent holes.. I’ll be back

This course is in great shape. The chap in the pro shop was very friendly and helpful. Greens were perfect.
Great course great price
Overall course in great condition, couple of holes have water standing due to previous heavy rain - drainage was and is a problem on some holes.

Tee time was 11:20. Got there early and was able to start early. Pace if play was good.
Miss playing this course.
I haven't played this course in sometime. I enjoyed my time there and will be returning often. The greens and fairways are in great condition, better than I remembered from past years. Keep up the good work.
