Great course conditions in UK's challenging Fall months
We played the Red and Blue course (a.k.a. purple course) on a dry cold day, after 24h of rainfall the day before. The course drained really well and was excellent to play.
There's a halfway house and all amenities that you wish for.
Only two issues I had, and that's rather personal of course; my friend and I got paired up with another two players, playing 4 ball. I find that for 65 pounds per person it should be possible to play without being paired up. Also, course of play on the red course was very slow, with 4 new players starting the course every 7-8min. We were supposed to play the yellow course as back nine, but as traffic was too much the staff offered us to change to the blue course to have free play ahead of us. And the second issue being that when booking on Golf Now, it's unclear which 9-hole combination the booking includes, and it remains a secret until arriving on site.
Again, everything else was lovely, I would definitely recommend the course to a friend and also hope to come back at some point.
Slightly underwhelming
I was excited to play this course having heard so much positive reviews from friends.
It’s certainly a nice course however I was a little put off by the x3 9 holes format. At times this can feel a bit of a maze. There is also the issue of people jumping in front when transitioning from 9th hole to 1st hole.
The course itself is challenging, with rough left to grow to knee length if you find yourself off the fairway then you’re in a lot of trouble.
Many of the greens on blue course appeared to have been inhabited by insects which left clubs, balls & shoes filthy.
The facilities are fantastic and the club has an air of grandeur. However it does not possesses the welcoming and warm feel I like to associate with a club house.
I’m sure many will love this course but I can’t see me returning anytime soon.
Course in great condition
Fair and fun course to play. Lots of variety of hole types and in really good condition. Greens were fantastically smooth. Stay out of the rough!
Great layout
First time playing here. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Course is just great fun to play
VERY UNFRIENDLY WELCOME
I’m not usually one for leaving reviews, but feel people should know of my experiences prior to a visit. Having played golf here many times, the course is great and usually well looked after. Although recently, the greenkeepers appear to have been rather lazy with the first cut of rough (knee high grass). The reason for my low review is solely down to the South African man who works in the pro shop. I have played Farleigh twice in the last week and can honestly say I have never felt less welcome to ANYWHERE than I have at Farleigh during these interactions. On the first visit, I gave him the benefit of the doubt and considered he may have been having a (very) bad day. However, after today’s visit, this man is honestly one of the rudest public sector workers I have ever come across. Today I was paired up with two new members of the club and I asked them how they felt about him. They confirmed what my opinion was and actually said they “felt they were doing something wrong by playing golf here”. Huge shame for any visitors as this is likely to be the first person you come across. Genuinely hope he is ok because everything about him suggests otherwise.
Booking Not good enough
We had a 10:06 tee off. When we arrived there was a queue of 4 groups on the Blue route.. I noticed a society sheet on the desk with 20 names. We went to check in only to be told they couldn’t find our booking. After asking another colleague he said he’d put it through for 10:18. Not very happy, but at least we are playing. I ask which tees are we off , to which he replies blue and then yellow. The queue for blue is still 4 groups deep and the yellows has two groups waiting, so we went to check out the reds.
There was a single player who was playing his second shot, so we went off them. When we got to the 3rd where the land opens up , we could see there was only one other group up to the 7th playing this course. We had a lovely nine holes in 90 minutes then onto the slow second 9 of the yellows 150 minutes.
The course was in a very good condition, other than fairway grass was a little too long , shame the organisation let it down.
Good condition with all the rain
Course was well set up and greens true
Only issue was it took us 4hours 30 mins nearly as a 3-ball as we waited on every tee for a v slow 4-ball in front of us who seemed determined never to let anyone through
Course might think about having a Marshall to manage things like that
Great afternoon!
Staff were fantastic, other members very welcoming, course was in great condition and very enjoyable. Not too difficult but tricky in places to keep you honest! Will be going back this weekend!
Need to sort out the pace of play here
I used to enjoy playing at Farleigh - the three 9 hole course system was a great way of providing variety each time you played. The conditions of the course have always been pretty good and the amenities and practice facilities are also decent. However, the last few times I've played I have had to walk off half way round due to the pace of play being intolerably slow. I don't know whether they are over booking their tee times or what the cause is, but on Sunday it took over 3 hours to get round 9 holes. We were late teeing off to start with as the groups had already backed up on the first tee. On the third tee of the course, there were at one point five groups on the same hole (one on the green, one on the tee box and three queuing). This seems to be becoming a consistent problem here and so I won't be booking any more rounds until it's sorted out. Over six hours for a two ball to get round is unplayable.
Will be returning
Played a twilight tee time. Was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the greens and the quality of the fairways. There was no leftover grass cuttings and the tee boxes were well maintained. The practice facilities were quiet and in a great location. The only complaint would be that the fairways were dried out in some places however that is expected at this time of year. Overall it’s a stunning course and I will definitely be back.
Somewhere different
Great course friendly staff just a double booked tee time so felt rushed on the 1st! But good pace of play
Definitely recommend this one
Nice layout
Played on a very windy and cold day , you can be very exposed on this hilly layout as we was, but considering the recent rains over the last few weeks course was in good condition .Not too much rough to worry about with plenty of space in hitting areas greens very tricky and speedy and on a windy day could be treacherous .
