Excellent condition good greens
Course in excellent condition. Greens fast and true, fairways well cut. Testing course with good variety of holes with excellent layout, plenty of challenges. Definitely be back again
Stop moaning!
The title is aimed at some of the reviewers I have read! My son and I had a thoroughly enjoyable round on a beautiful course - we are relearning the game after a break of many years, and this course will draw us back many times in the future.Terrific value, friendly staff and other players were enjoying the day - excellent.
We last played Forest Hill together in 1992, but I have been back with others a few times - it is great to see how the course has matured, and that the original mobile prefab clubhouse has been replaced by a fine modern building.
course let down by golfers
This is a nice golf course with great facilities let down by the people that use it. I have been playing golf for over 30 years, gave up due to the pace of play at my course about 6 years ago but being drawn back into the gave due to my son taking up the game. We played on a Sunday afternoon with a pleasant couple, the course was in nice condition, the greens are excellent and quite quick, it was the bunkers that let it down, people were not raking them after they had played shots out of them, not on but all the bunkers I saw had footprints in, not from one person but a number of people.
Also the greens of the ninth and eighteenth are quite close together, while playing the ninth a player on the ninth hit my sons golf bag there was no shout of warning and no apology for the shot. Again when we played the eighteenth a similar occurrence when a ball came close to us with no warning. Play the course but keep an eye on those around you.
Good Challenge for all
Nice layout and a good challenge.
Fairways were in good condition however the greens were overgrown and the speed varied from hole to hole.
First Round of Golf in 2017
Tee reservation was very simple and straightforward. The staff in the Pro Shop were very friendly and helpful (nothing was too much trouble). The course management in general was good, but only criticism we would have would be the poor condition of a few of the tees (uncut and poorly maintained) The Clubhouse & Locker Rooms were first class and catering staff very much in keeping with the Pro Shop. Subsequently, the overall experience was extremely enjoyable and excellent value for money. Most certainly would recommend this course to any golfer thinking of playing here for the first time and already looking forward to our next visit. Many congratulations to everyone associated with running and maintaining Forest Hill Golf Club. Kind Regards, Pamela & Michael.
Nice course
Excellent course. Almost faultless for price.
Only problem was , off winter tee mats which are not up to scratch
Unable to get tee in to them. They had rubber ones on them but not suitable for me.
Apart from that great course
Will play again in summer
Course should have been closed. Every fairway was waterlogged and like a bog. If I had paid in the pro shop would have asked for a weather cheque!!!
An above average layout with some very well protected greens, and some good looking holes (4th and 11th come to mind) Was very boggy due to recent rain however temporary tees available, only had my ball plug once just off a fairway and generally landing zones were dry. Greens very good considering, if a little slow. Would visit again in the summer, but fantastic value for a winter knock about.
Winter golf
Found this course when looking to break up a journey up the M1, only a few miles off Junction 21a.
Was a frosty morning was hard getting a tee in the ground, although there was a fair few mats to tee off from, I avoided those as they were too slippery. There was no winter greens thankfully, although the frost was in the greens they putted well and still had a bit of pace to them. There was I am told 8000 new trees planted last year at various points on the course, obviously they are all staked so if You missed the fairway there was a good chance to get yourself back on it by means of free drops.
I would say that the course is good value for winter golf at £13.00. It's not too difficult, there are a few holes with water hazards other than that there is not much to stop you putting in a good score.
Pleasant parkand coursel
Nice quite challenging layout. Quite a lot of straight holes requiring longish straight drives. Some water, which comes into play, especially on 4th The par 3s are ok but not memorable. Some par 5s. Condition of course good but hard to judge greens when I played as some autumn work spiking and sanding going on. Fairways good. Rough not too punishing. Bunkers good in the main but some shallow or unranked sand. Tees fine Bit of a walk to the first tee but good warm up facilities ( putting green, bunker, nets) more than make up for the trek. Members seemed friendly. Good clubhouse facilities and service with nice balcony views over 9th and 18th greens and 10th tee. All in all nice set up and experience. Would play again.
Fine,friendly course
This was my first time at Forest Hills, having booked online. The course was beautiful, well-maintained and fairly challenging. I had intended to play on my own but was invited by a member to play alongside him which made the experience an even better one. It helps to have someone with inside knowledge of a course as well as company as one plays. I would certainly play here again.
