Tricky & Scenic.
A very tricky course, good condition, stunning views and location.
Bad members
I was shouted at by a society for being in my own fairway
Challenging...!
A very interesting course - some areas are not my favourite, there's a lot of short undulations on the fairways, signage could be improved and I never like shared fairways. That's the bad stuff out of the way.....now for the good. A very challenging course as there are some pronounced slopes and some very well placed bunkers, trees and ponds. You certainly have to think your way round. We played in very dry conditions so the slopes were even more pronounced, but with care you could navigate your way round. Fairways in moderate condition, some better than others, greens were superb, a real delight but a real challenge. Glad to see the 18th tee, not so glad that the green is overseen by a restaurant, and in hot weather everyone was enjoying the sight of golfers struggling. Fortunately we fared OK and were not an embarrassment. I'll certainly come again, maybe in the autumn after some rain. I really want to meet the challenge, and to enjoy those views of the Peak District again. Thanks Greenway, memorable.
Okay but not Special
I played this course early morning. Furdtbtge goid bits. Easy to find, ample car parking, very nice modern driving range and decent pro shop with eating and drinking facilities. The course was varied and challenging. The price paid was very good value. But now for the bad bits. The course was scruffy, signage not great. But by far the worse was the greens. Bumpy, long slow and variable. Accept it’s still early in the season and water has been scarce but even so.
But it was still an enjoyable round with some unusual holes. Overall it’s a positive especially for the price.
Greenway stoke
Club house and car park very good. First 5 holes pretty good (although you are overlooked by locals when you T off and expect to get commented on, IQ is pretty low in Stoke so don’t expect too much). First few holes ok, middle few bad(very hilly, t boxes in bad condition, layout weird), last few nice (going down hill, greens better, views nice).
Not enough buggies which you could do with unless you like mountain climbing. Overpriced if you ask me (£30 for a very average course is a lot I think) the food in the top 19th was poor! You’d be better off going to Wetherspoons. However, it wasn’t overpriced! The food that is!
Good layout, poor greens
Really hilly and different layout to standard courses but greens were very poor
Great course
Second time playing there, I want to make greenway hall my “go to” golf course, great value for money, staff incredibly friendly. Course has got plenty of challenging holes to push yourself despite myself only being a beginner, will be returning for a long time in the future, a few marks of GUR throughout the course but that’s to be expected given the early heatwaves we’ve had during a time of year when we usually get plenty of rain
'Green'way
I've played this course many times over the years. I only play it as it's close to my home. Money spent on the driving range, but not on the condition of the course. I don't know who they've had as greenkeeper over the years, but they are awful to say the least. Invest in a good greenkeeper & get them up to scratch!
Appalling greens, has not improved when I was promised it would be last year
I played this course a few times last year. Although the views were great the course was shocking. There was one green where a motorbike had ripped it up,Rubbish everywhere, the greens were terrible amd the tee boxes were shocking. On top of this simple things like signs for directions, replacing divots etc were nowhere to be seen.....hence us giving directions to a few visitors (we were visitors ourselves), as well as the mist divots I have ever seen.
The last time I visited a lot of the members were complaining that the greens are never on and it was a mess, but they had gotten another new director of golf who was going to improve things, such as getting water to the greens.....I was told this last year by my nephew.
Imagine my surprise when playing today. Playing the greens are pointless! They are bobbly, dirt everywhere, no grass. Pure luck needed when putting......awful.
The last time I played I was also bored of cleaning my ball and was told there would be more ball cleaners....again still the one dry broken one......one!
The bunkers also have a light dusting of sand/bricks
I spoke to some of the members after and asked what happened to the water and ball cleaners they were promised, as well as why the 17th green is not on after all this time (which they do not tell you when you book)
They said that they just spend the money on the driving range extension and a new paddle ball court as they are more bothered about the profit, not the course.
It's a shame that everything I was told was just a sales pitch as I may have left westwood. However the course has no greens or bunkers that would benefit any player looking to improve.
march 25
course was fine but greens were poor as they had just been scarified and sanded
The greens are even worse. Apparently the members have been promised water on the greens for years but they just keep building add ons to the driving range and lying to members. Played in a team match and the greens are dusty and like concrete. Worst I have seen in the area. Shame
