The Highs of Hinksey
This course does not beat you up. No forests to explore, no long grasses to snarl your club. Narrow fairways bordered by slopes that allow you to play on. Interesting greens that qualify it as a championship course. Views that allow the spires to inspire and a feeling of being on top of our globe.
Highly recommended.
Golf with a view
Have played here a few times in the last few years and the course condition has improved immeasurably. Greens, fairways and tee boxes all in very good condition.
Unfortunately the pace was a bit slow with 2 balls and 4 balls mixed in the field. I think if 2 balls were made to join up this could have been alleviated.
However still a really enjoyable Saturday morning with stunning views of Oxford foc.
Look forward to my next round soon.
Thanks
Challenging course with superb views
The course was in excellent condition, with the tee boxes, fairways and greens in superb condition. There were numerous bunkers GUR, but that did not detract from my enjoyment. I would gladly play this course again.
Game of 2 halves
First 9 seem pretty basic and not overly interesting, but then as you get to the latter holes on the course, it becomes much more challenging and scenic.
Testing greens
Really enjoyed this course, some great holes that are really challenging. Would like to maybe see another par 3 in there but apart from that. Great time had by all!
Great great great
Great course hills & slopes every where that make it a challenge but let’s face it flat can be boring... most bunkers are gur which can be a pain .... views to die for if the weather is nice .... Plenty of wind if the weather isn’t to good ..... friendly staff make it just a great place to go.
Hinksey Heights
First time at Hinksey Heights , staff and members were very friendly , a hilly course very enjoyable , local knowledge or course planner recommended.
Will play again!
Good views very hilly
Nice course to play with good views overlooking Oxford, plenty challenging holes and course condition was on the good side.
Great course
This was only the second golf course we have played on. Great for the beginner, we would definitely recommend it and will return one day.
Decent
Played Hinksey a fair few times. The most notable thing is definitely how quiet it always is. Honestly don't know how they are still in business because I rarely see a soul there! As others have mentioned the majority of the bunkers are GUR but that's not always a bad thing I suppose. The fairways and greens are always in good condition and there are some pretty challenging holes (3 especially!). Also it definitely favours the long hitters because there are a lot of par 5's and long par 4's. One of my favourite things about the course is that trees and thick growth is a rarity so usually if you miss the fairway by a mile you'll actually find your ball quite easily and have a playable lie (probably on a hill though). Only downside really for me is the price if you are a visitor because it is a fine course but really nothing super special. Overall, I really like it and happy to have nearby.
Good value
Whilst hinksey may not be the best kept course in the area, its well worth a game.
A tough course with so
me interesting holes and great views make a decent round for a cheap price.
I'd recommend grabbing a hot deal when they come up as anything over £15 is a little steep considering the condition of the course.
Most bunkers are GUI and the fairways/greens aren't going to win any awards.
The walk is tough as it's very hilly.
On paper hinksey doesn't have a lot going for it, but it has something about it that keeps me coming back.
Excellent value!
The clubhouse is small but full of character. Staff were friendly and helpful and I enjoyed a quick lunch before going out on the course. It was a windy day for playing a hilly course, and certainly blew the cobwebs away! I played here a few years ago and it was great to see how much it has improved. Greens were true (and hard to read in places). Fairways were in great condition, and a few daisies in the rough were not enough to hide my errant ball on occasion! There were some areas under repair, mostly bunkers, but nothing that affected my game. Asking at the bar afterwards, I learned there is a bunker renovation programme underway, due for completion in May. The views of Oxford would be better on a nicer day so I will definitely be back soon to enjoy the whole experience again.
