Great value for money
Overall you can’t really argue for £10 for 18 holes.
Nice mix of pars over the 18 with a nice layout.
The state of the course however isn’t great. Tee boxes on yellows are often just mud, broken tee’s everywhere, with leaves and sticks (from dog walkers) covering most fairways. I lost several balls on fairways simply through leaf coverage already and it’s only August. This really isn’t acceptable.
It’s £10 for 18 holes on a Saturday PM, with a few (almost) 500yd par 5’s, so it’s difficult to argue against the price. But it could be so, so much better and could charge so much more if it just had that little extra effort put into maintaining tee boxes and clearing leaves.
Great value & friendly
Great course for the price, very friendly golfers and staff.
Absolute bargain😀
In comparison to other courses I’ve played before this is fantastic. The price is unbelievable and the staff, players infact everyone iis friendly and welcoming. Thank you I brought a young guy with me and he now has the golf bug. We will be playing agin very soon. Thank you 🙏
Nice course
Course and facilities are in a great condition. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would be helpful to have either signposts to the next tee or a map on the score card to help. Had to ask other players where the tee was for the two par 3's in the middle of the course.
Somewhat Disappointing
The course is in need of lots of work. There’s lots of standing water that’s needs to have drainage installing and emptying into the ponds on dotted around the course or the brooks that run through it. The Tee boxes are very uneven and patchy, the 17th has mats down probably due to being in the shade. The trees could also do with thinning to allow more light onto parts of the course that are in almost permanent shade, the ponds need to be tidied up and a lot of the trees are overtaking the ponds. The bunkers need digging out and fresh sand as they are just holding the water, so they are more of a pond than a bunker.
Also groups of lads are joining the course from the 2nd Tee so are not paying this includes a 5 ball who clearly have never played.
For an Ian Woosnam course it’s being neglected.
Disappointing
This is an Ian Woosnam branded course and I’d hoped for better.
Many years ago, it was a Municipal and although well used, was always in good condition provided it wasn’t too wet.
After a fairly dry period, 3 of us played for the first since it came under the brand name and we were all disappointed with its condition.
Finding the next tee after leaving the previous green was sometimes a challenge even with some laminated temporary signs pinned to trees and there was no course map printed on the score card which had to be picked up in the bar area as there is no longer any golf shop.
Fairways were generally poor with heavily rutted tyre tracks across many and occasionally, small standing pools of stagnant water were apparent. We didn’t see any yardage markers and the greens? Some were ok but many had plenty of bald patches. The bunkers were also very, very firm with little sand; we found it easier to putt out of some of the flatter ones.
Having said that, it’s a nicely laid out course with plenty of variety of hole shapes and distances plus it wasn’t expensive for 18 holes. We were disappointed because with just a little more care and attention, it could be so, so, much better.
.
The worst course in britain
The staff and Green keepers should be ashamed letting people play on water logged course.so in my eyes there only there taking people money and dont care about the course at all.they even let people on with buggies which just made even worse.i feel robbed of £8.99 there was that much water in the course the ducks were paddling down the fairways tee boxes I've never seen tee boxes in such a bad way and played at arrow Park which is just as bad and they were trying charge £13 pound a round today golf now should take thus course of the site because its just day light robbery.i would never play there again and highly recommend people the same abousulte garbage
Disgraceful
Management should of closed the course, due to it being water logged on every fairway. I accept that there has been a lot of rain, but letting people play on ground like that is going only further harm the course. Not only that, but they are letting people go out on cart's, that is destroying the ground. Absolutely stupid of them to allow that to happen. Shocking!
Is this the best value golf in the UK?
Considering the amount of rain our courses in the North West have had , the condition was reasonably good. Greens were not great and there is visible evidence of just how wet the course has been through the winter. Our day was sunny and no pressure behind or in front. At £8.99 for 18 it really was millionaires golf.
Good value for money
I visited on bank holiday Monday and teed off just before 9am. It was pretty quiet and for a high handicap I got round in 3 hours and let one person through.
The course has a few doglegs. I would go on golfpass and check the order of the holes, between a couple of them there is a bit of a trek.
Ideally there would be less cut grass lying about and maybe the rough could be more trim? But for £13, can’t really complain.
Good Course
I hadn't played here for many years. Still a good course. The day we played it was a little bit boggy, very surprised they still allowed golf buggies to be driven around.
We ended up jumping two holes due to a four ball that was unbelievably slow, and causing a huge backlog behind meaning waiting 5 minutes plus to take each shot, no good for consitent play.
But overall really enjoyed the round. Will be playing there again I'm sure.
Worth a knock
Came here with no expectations after reading previous reviews. However I was pleasantly surprised. The course is quite tricky at times narrow fairways and greens mixed in with some forgiving holes. What people need to remember this is a municipal course and only £10 to play, the fairways are a bit long and boggy in some places but what do you expect this time of year! Will play here again in summer 🏌♂️⛳️
I thought you had to have clubs to play?!
No criticism of this course is fair at £10 per round. It's fantastic value and I would encourage any golfer to try it. It's great, BUT - we had 3 inexperienced players in front playing from two bags. Driving into trees, lost balls, zero etiquette, literally throwing clubs to each other across the greens. As a result play was unreasonably slow and clearly the normal rules of golf behaviour didn't apply. What made it worse was that there was exactly the same behaviour behind. 3 players, two bags and at one point they were kicking a football back and forth between them.
I'm really in favour of encouraging new players but they MUST learn the rules of golf and appropriate behaviour.
Was a lovely course bit muddy due to the rain the past week. Other than that was brilliant value for money, staff were friendly and helpful.
Decent course
A decent course for average golfers. We played for the first time trying to get back in to golf. Greens are one of the worst ive seen, like putting on the moon. Fairways in good condition
