Outstanding location & course

We discovered an absolute gem of a course, with more than enough hazards to keep us on our toes. The course is very well kept - especially being located at the foot of the fell.

Loved getting so close to the red deer too!

The only downside being that I lost my jacket there the previous week - still hoping someone hands it in.

great course

Hilly course so take plenty of energy food. First time I've played in ages but I loved it. Fantastic views all around. Good combination of testing holes and birdie opportunities.

Fantastic value

Last minute decision to play, after pouring with rain all morning I saw a deal for £12.99 and I’m really glad I chose to play, although the course was very damp, the views, and the course were much better than what you’d expect from the price. I will most definitely be playing here in the future, hopefully on a slightly drier day :)

KGC

It was a bit on the boggy side, but the course has that reputation.

But still an enjoyable day none the less. Club house and staff friendly, food was good.

Disappointed 😔

First time visit to Keswick.

What a fabulous location.

Weather has been good for a while, so expecting great things.

Our muddy trudge up the first fairway was a sign of things to come.

Every ball hit was either plugging or stopped dead, with mud balls all the way.

I hoped that as we climbed to higher holes we might find better conditions. Wrong.

The entire course was no better than a series of muddy fields. The greens, although slow, were the best part of a poor experience.

To cap it all, we arrived at the 18th green which is a very underwhelming final hole.

No more than a green cut in a flat, soggy field.

Enjoyed a pint and sandwich before we departed.

Poor winter golf at summer rates.

A great test of golf.

Arrived for 9.52am tee time on Saturday 10th August and the whole clubhouse, pro shop and lounge was completely deserted ☺️.

Course itself is a brilliant test of golf, not overly long, but the ever present wind adds/changes distance.

Brutal rough.... Anytime wide of the 1st cut snd don't even try to find it.

Great gem of a course.

Delighted to return here after years

Great value and what a delight to return to KGC after about 3 decades. The course has been brought on with nice touches on tees and greens. At nearly 6200 yards there's many testing par 4's and 3's here. The 2nd par 3 hole is 238 yards and the uphill par 4 13th at 417 yards demands two good shots. No bunkers but enough rough and natural hazards bring strategy into a lot of holes. You just wonder how good this course can get with improved drainage in areas and a few more touches here and there. The views of Blencathra are all part of a great unique golf course setting.

Good course to play

Played on a Tuesday morning. There was no one in front of me so no hold ups. The course is well laid out, it was quite wet but I am presuming they have had a lot of rain. Overall a good course to play as there are a few challenging holes

Great despite deluge

Played early Sunday after a 24 hour deluge of rain. Still playable, a few bits of standing water ro be expected. Greens held up well. Quite a few interesting holes, have to think your way around. Nice staff in bar after round.

Walked

Excellent VFM, play it!

A very scenic course with stunning surrounding scenery. Considering all the rain the course was in excellent condition, esp the greens. Some fairways were plugging, to be expected however there was no surface water and excess sogginess! The rough is cruel, if you go in impossible to find ball so play straight! Clubhouse was accessible but bar not open ,staff very friendly and recommended a good local pub for lunch post round. If you are in the area or passing thru with clubs in the boot well worth a round.

Nice layout, nice staff but should have been closed

The course layout seems to be quite good and the staff were friendly, but we had to walk off after completing 4 holes due to the course conditions. The staff in the clubhouse had advised us that it was damp underfoot, but in no way did we expect this to mean that balls would be plugging on greens and fairways. The course should have been closed. Played through first 4 holes and after losing plugged balls into the 5th fairway from our tee shots, walked off. Would not play again.

Great course usually

I’ve played here half a dozen times now. The course has a lovely lay out and some great holes, if you hit a long drive and are adventurous the last 2 par fives are reachable in 2 if you take an aggressive line and go over the trees, the 16th par 3 is a cracking hole guarded by a tree to the left of the green, so good luck hitting the green but it’s doable, the greens are very slow here which is so strange as they look like they should be rapid, I was very disappointed as they were hollow tining the greens in September? Overall it’s a good course and it never seems to busy

Scenic course with breathtaking views

Excellent value for this challenging course with an entertaining range of holes. The fairways were lush and made the ball easier to hit but several greens were rather uneven and lumpy. The rough is thick and almost impossible to hit out of but the fairways are nice and wide. Playing the course is hard with lots of gradients but that’s how it should be. Views over Blencathra are a constant delight.
