Beautiful parkland course
I approached this course with concerns as the rain had been falling heavily all day. However the rain stopped as soon as we started to play and conditions became very good. I am not a very good player so found the course challenging in places but it is spectacular and gave me a good experience for an enjoyable round of golf. I would recommend the course and will be back to test it out again
Best course in the area!
A course that has it all, some holes make you think which makes it a great course, not just a standard up and down like others close by.
Alpine course in Warwickshire
This is a course to play once and move on. Our group of three senior citizens struggled with the constant elevation changes across the course (Avon Gasp - the 11th - is well named as the climb to the tee and then the climb to the green leaves you seriously out of breath). We were also not enamoured of blind tee shots on at least four holes and upturned saucers for greens on several holes where good shots are punished. And beware the 12th as it has a driveable green (a long drop down the fairway means even average hitters can put the group in front in danger).
There are some good holes - the 1st and 18th are relatively flat. There are a couple of holes where laying up is advisable. But overall, this wasn't one of the better days out, even though one of our group aced the 142yd 2nd hole.
Great place for golf
Excellent golf course in a stunning location.
Looking forward to the next visit
Lovely course but very hilly!
The entrance to this course is slightly strange and you could end up at the hotel side and need to turn around like we did. But following arrival we found this course was in great condition and was lovely and quiet when we went during the week. I thought it was suitable for a range of abilities from beginners to advanced.
My only advice would be to get a buggy because I’m 31 yet I still struggled with the hills. This course is challenging in that respect. We were pretty much the only ones walking this course. If only we had known!
Just to note:
I can imagine because of the hills, if it’s bad weather you may encounter some serious boggy patches in places. When we booked it did ask us to ring through to check this.
Friends golf day
Great day , lovely course. Always a pleasure to play golf there...
Lovely Track !!!!
I took three friends there to show them what a real course looks like !!!!
Superb value for money
Course was fantastic,! Tees, fairways and greens all in great condition. Love the layout here some fantastic holes. Bit of a walk between a few of the holes but great value for the money.
Nice course in beautiful grounds
Nice course overall with some unique and challenging holes. Could not fault the quality of the fairways and greens, some parts of course slightly unloved - and with a bit more TLC this could be a real gem.
Good value for the money. Nice clubhouse and gentleman in the starter hut was very friendly.
Great course
Had a great days golf . Travelled to Stratford upon Avon , the course is 5 minute drive away from the Center of Town where we stayed.
We played the Warwickshire golf club a bit further out on the Friday , on his occasional we could share buggies , The Welcolmbe insisted on 1 person per buggy made it an expensive round , hopefully this rule will change soon !..
would not deter me going back though
The Welcombe Golf Course
Decent course overall, some greens a little patchy and could maybe be in better condition. Very hilly with some blind tee shots but plenty of challenging and scenic holes. The par 5 16th especially with the hotel as the backdrop looks stunning and was a particular highlight. Pace of play wise, there was a bit of a snarl up towards the end where it took about an hour to play the last three holes. I paid £22 in total on GolfNow (one golfer), which I think was good value for money, though I’ve seen it priced much higher and would be reluctant to pay any more than £25.
Forced to have 1 person per buggy at £20 and holatised sandy greens
Go to course only to be told that it was 1 person per buggy and that that was "the law" (event though it is not) which meant we half the group were forced to walk or pay another £20 each for their own buggy.
Then to add insult to injury we got to the first green only to find that they had been recently holatised and were very bumpy and covered in sand! and on top of this - most of the bunkers were GUR...
Not happy especially at the price being asked.
Not the law but in fairness it is following EGU guidelines as you can’t sit 1 meter apart in a buggy.
