Price hike
We've played the Welcombe course regularly the past few years and never paid as much for a round !!! No noticeable difference to the course no use of facilities at the current time so hard to see why the green fee had such an increase. We wouldn't consider playing again unless there was a deal on.
First time playing Welcombe
Nice course with scenic holes. Only completed 9 holes but was impressed with the course. None of the facilities were open due to COVID-19 .
Is the mower broke??
Looked forward to playing the course, took the day off work for my birthday. At £30 a round for an weekday afternoon, I was expecting good things.
The course looked like it hadn’t been cut in 2 weeks. Fairways, rough and greens all longer than it should be. Greens uneven, bunkers in a bad state. The place looking very shabby.
My main memory was watching many golfers trying to find their balls in the first cut of rough. If the ball was not on the fairway, your ball was lost. Difficult when many of the holes are blind off the tee with sloping fairways.
Hard for a low handicapper to get any spin, hard for high handicapper to keep losing balls.
Should never be charging £30 until it’s gets back on its feet after lockdown.
It was definitely not a “hot deal” as advertised
Won’t be returning
Stunning Views with some challenge
Played for the first time and the day was a real scorcher. The course was in the main in great condition. Some of the bunkers were unplayable but the greens and tee boxes were pretty good. For a high HC player this was a challenging course and I came out with a below average score. However the surroundings and views are spectacular, but there are quite a few different levels to this course and in 32 deg heat it was a real gruel-er pushing a trolley and by the 16th I was beat !!!!
Both me and my partner enjoyed the round and would definitely go back if in the area again.
Good condition and excellent greens...difficult to read
The course played well and responded to recent rainfall.
Considering the down time since lock down it was in great condition
Not to be revisited soon
Despite the recent return to golf, the course has the feel of years of neglect.
It has the layout & potential to be a challenging & welcoming course, but it did not leave me wanting to return anytime soon.
Also, there was no one checking you in so in theory we could have just walked straight in off the street without paying.
As a result it was not worth the money paid.
Over priced
Was looking forward to playing this course but for a cost of £35 plus a booking fee it was disappointing. First of all you could just walk on without showing your booking. Fairways in poor condition, rough too penalising and greens ropey at best. I do understand we have had a dry spring and a lot of courses took a battering because they were over played last autumn but it seems that no preparation has been done during lockdown. So I won't be running in the near future.
Should be better
I know things aren’t as they used to be currently.... but still some effort required! I’ve played 6 rounds in the last 7 days, all in the local area.... this was by the far the most expensive and so many things let it down. I’ve played here many times before and the holes themselves are very pretty and picturesque. Unfortunately not a single member of staff on site, so people teeing off as and when they wanted, the pair about to tee off when we arrived were two hours latent or their tee time!!! And NO SCORECARDS left out anywhere?!?! How can you charge £35 a round in these times and not even leave scorecards out for people to play. The course itself was very “Meh.” The ground was incredibly dry and very yellow, in comparison to Stratford lark hotel just 1 mile away, the condition here was poor! The grass had been cut and none of it collected, so a foot off the fairway your ball is guaranteed to be lost in the cut and left grass. Not impressed!!
Great day out
Had a really great day at The Welcombe on Saturday
8 of us made the trip over from Evesham due to our course being closed
We had a great welcome and an overall excellent golf day
Thank you
Round interrupted!
The round started on time and despite following a three ball group was played at a good pace. On reaching the 16th tee we were faced with three groups waiting to begin their rounds. This was a company outing which was supposed to begin at the 10th hole but was changed at the last minute. The resulting delay was disruptive to our round despite the group helpfully inviting us to play through. Neither the marshall nor the pro shop would admit responsibilty for this. Odd way to run a golf course.
Could be good if managed properly
£35 for a buggy is just a joke. It’s quite a hilly course and this is just the club taking advantage. And I wouldn’t bother anyway. It’s one of these courses that tries to control the buggy’s path, badly. ‘Follow this side of the fairway’ which it only tells you halfway down the fairway and then just stops refuses to cross it. Just back it up for 100m to find one of the few paths.
It’s no wonder the course is so backed up with everybody getting frustrated with the stupid buggies.
And do you like uneven tee boxes? Then this is the place for you. Such a cheap thing to fix but they can’t be bothered. The greens are very slow and should be in better condition this time of year.
Well worth it
Great course, good condition with a fantastic backdrop. Greens a little on the firm side, but nothing to moan about. Good day out for a good price. Only hangup was the pace of play. Three societies with queuing at every tee
What a belter
Cracking course I was the first one on the course it was great!! Stand out holes are the 8th and 16th the holes are great all individual, my only slight gripe is there can on some holes be a lot of walking between holes, but worth it!! £25 is a bargain I will defo be playing again
If Heineken made Golf courses.....
..... well, you know the rest of the ad!
The Welcombe is a great track and (for me anyway) it makes eminent sense to rent a buggy. Great holes, great views towards the Cotswolds and altogether a great course.
