Worth a visit
Have been thinking of playing here for a while. Paid £27.50 for a Saturday afternoon. Nice course but not worth anymore than what I paid in my opinion. It's fairly wide fairways are tree lined so you've got a good chance to score well if you stay pretty straight. Where the greens were good they were very good, where they were a little scruffy around some edges we just moved our ball. Tee boxes were all good. Bunkers needed more sand. The course has some good grass bunkers though (nice feature). Very pretty trees surround the course. (Score 80)
NIce course
A good well laid out course, although the greens were somewhat bobbly. However the round was spoilt by the slow play. Eventually had to give up after 16 holes (almost 5 hours)!
Great potential
This course could be so much better. The fairways could have been in better condition (ie cut the fairways) . The tee boxes could have been mowed,it all seemed quite tufty. The greens were ok (soft & fast). A little maintenance and this course would be brilliant.
25 yrs later and was impressed!
I was a member here 25 yrs ago when the course was very young and having matured dramatically, I was impressed!
The greens were in excellent nick and fairways, also. They offered real definition and character to the holes.
If you were offline, you most certainly have to take your medicine and very was punitive. As it should be.
Course was generally very nice, but was scruffy around the edges and does need more care and attention. It could really elevate the course if its better maintained in places. The putting green being a prime example.
The clubhouse needs some tlc, also. And, the pro shop was non-existent. It was some shelves at the end of the bar...seriously!
Lovely parkland that was real value for money and from a nostalgic point of view, it was lovely to witness its maturity.
Great course
Great course some really interesting holes to make you think about your game only one thing that will make it better is when with have had some rain which the course really could do with
Hidden Gem
This course is really starting to look great. The fairways are well defined and although these fairways are tree lined, the green keepers have cut the grass between the trees so you have a chance to find your ball and to escape from this hazard. THe greens had been recently treated but they ran smoothly and the ball held the green on approach shots. The par threes are a real treat, three of the four are over water hazards and they look great from the tee box.
Well wort a visit, friendly staff and pleasant patio area by the 18th green to comtemplate what could have been :-)
Great course
Great course with some beautiful holes and some challenging holes. Could do with some signs on each hole showing layout for first timers as you used to have however overall great course
Disgraceful greens
What is usually an enjoyable and challenging round, the course is completely let down by the absolutely disgraceful condition of the greens. Most courses are carrying out maintenance on the greens at this time of year, but every other course manages to keep their greens playable. Park Wood's greens are the worst greens i can remember playing on- divots and holes everywhere, not even running remotely true. The club also seem happy to let people start on the 11th, regardless of holding up those playing through from the 10th. We had at least a 5 minute wait on every hole from 11th onwards.
Greens
For may the greens were poor, so many other golf clubs have amazing greens this time of year, so for £35 was very disappointing, was pointless taking a putter.
Park Wood - any good?
No, in short which is a real shame as it has the potential to be great. The only disappointing thing (and it’s so important) is that the greens are horrendous. I’ve played the course twice now and on both occasions I’ve ended up complaining to the Marshall about the state of them. They are so poorly kept you might as well chip instead of putt. The course layout and fairways are decent and when the suns shining they’re are some beautiful holes but don’t hold you breath for a nice rolling ball once you’re on the dance floor! Sort it out Park Wood, I know I’m not the only person complaining about them!!
