Well worth the drive
This course is up there with the best in and around York. 6400yds off the yellows is a good test but the wide fairways mean the driver can be used on most 4’s & 5’s. The greens were great for this time of the year, fast and true. There is a bit of winter weather damage but another month should sort that out. We’ll be returning even though it’s a 60 mile round trip
Good course
Really good day, group ahead were very slow, which while not spoiling the day did mean waiting on most tees. Which in a chilly wind was no fun. The group Teed off about 20mins before us and we were a four ball so hard to understand why they were so slow. However good course with some long tricky holes. good greens and obviously well looked after
Fine customer care, ordinary course
Played as a 3-ball, not long after 2021 lockdown. Set-up and service in bar & shop were very good, everyone helpful and courteous.
The course is, in a nutshell, long, flat and boring - fairways and greens were top-quality, bunkers reasonable. Extensive crow damage due to chafer grub, all off-fairway, and greens staff battling this as we played.
Hats off to the workforce at Sandburn, they work hard to keep customers happy, but the landscape will always make it a pretty ordinary round of golf.
Great value .Stunning location
First time at sandburn.Excellent course .Very enjoyable afternoon will definitely return .
This course has a lovely layout
The course was laid out beautifully & very well maintained, saw severel grounds people out there looking after the course. Staff in clubhouse & in the shop were very friendly & helpful. Would thoroughly recommend this course.
This course was just amazing
Everything about this course just oozed class the tee,s fairways and green were amazing especially when we had had a lot of rain the day before well done to the green keepers
Can’t believe they let people play!!!!
So I booked Sandburn Hall late Thursday evening. After looking at the weather Friday afternoon, I realised that it was not looking good. Anyway, me and my friend decided to go anyway and hope for the best. To allow people to play on the course when half of the course, all the paths, the greens had huge puddles of standing water on them IMO is a joke. Your not only ruining your course but also robbing the people who have played to play, the course was clearly unplayable. I can’t understand for the life of me why they didnt close the course for the afternoon after the terential rain that had pretty much happened all day. I messaged a friend who is a member there and he said “ yeah it gets like that”. It’s not acceptable that it gets like that and they allow people to play when we’ve payed money for a round of golf. Payed for 18 holes, played 3 and a tee shot on the forth and gave up. I won’t be going back to sandburn in a hurry.
Well worth a visit
Although the course is close by, this is the first time that I have played here. A nicely laid out course in good condition. Lots of strategically placed bunkers. Will definitely play here again.
Fantastic course
Excellent fairways and greens.
Very well maintained
Been before and will definitely be back again
Sandburn Hall is a very underrated course, it is very well maintained and has excellent facilities . We have played here a few times and if it was closer to my home I would have probably signed up as a member. There is a driving range with bays, excellent chipping and putting area and a practice hole. The course itself is pretty flat so don’t expect any amazing elevated views but the layout works well with many trees and deep rough if you stray from the fairways. I have played in both summer and winter here and find it drains pretty well for such a flat course. The only negatives worth mentioning would be the wedding receptions they hold. This can make for a very busy time Around the clubhouse (but this is a hotel and events location so it is to be expected) and also if you get stuck behind the juniors or a society play can be extremely slow. currently the driving range was under maintenance but it shows the are investing money and time into improving the facilities. The pro shop is well stocked and a friendly reception awaits. Overall I would definitely recommend Sandburn Hall and will be back again (when the prices are at a decent rate through GolfNow).
Excellent Value for Money
This is one of the best courses in the York area. Furthermore the cost is one of the cheapest.
Excellent course and clubhouse.
Good course ruined by bird dropping
Played Sandburn Hall. Lots of bird droppings on course. Flat easy walking.
All Temporaty Greens!
Played Sandburn Hall today and very disappointed by the condition of the course! This situation was amplified to discover when we arrived that the driving range was closed (until further notice) and that we had to play on temporary greens !!! I would NOT have booked there if I knew before !!
Excellent Course
Played this flat woodland course as a group of 8. Staff in the bar/restaurant very welcoming on arrival and the bacon sandwiches first class.
Pro shop well stocked and staff very helpful.
Practice area putting green and driving range first class.
The course has very wide expansive fairways which has sand traps strategically located so you have to plan your way around. The greens were in excellent order and ran true. All in all the course is a very fair challenge.
Great course
Course in excellent condition for this time of year, greens and fairways could not be any better, we will be back soon as it’s one of the best course around for this time of year.
Sandburn
A cold November day with plenty of rain on previous days, the course was in very good condition. The greens were immaculate for any time of year , even paced fast and very true. A lot of work was being done on the course including tee and bunker reconstruction, but this only resulted in one hole on the front nine being changed to a temporary green. Sandburn is a good test of golf in length and layout, but it is fair and interesting. It is an easy walk as it is quite flat but never dull . A lovely setting and a very accessible club house make this course a good place to play.
