ODD. POOR LAYOUT. CROSSING FAIRWAYS. Bad.
The overall layout of the course is dreadful. A shared 9 hole course. Its not an 18, its 9 twice. But people can be playing on the 1st and 10th, at the same time. At one point we had 4 groups within 50 yards of one another. A tee box with 6 possible starts, and multiple times having to wait at a tee box with 3/4 groups as its so conjested. Made a drive and about to take 2nd shot and a group of 4 walk come across the same fairway. The layout is awful. Clubhouse not open until late, no trolleys to rent. Its a glorified 9 hole and not worth the money.( not even close)
Do not go here
It’s basically 9 holes twice round using the same flag for 90 percent of holes apart from 12 and 13 greens was in decent nick however fairways were poor and no pro shop on arrival everything was locked
Quirky course well looked after
First time playing this course and loved how looked after the course is.
Very strange layout due to numerous shared holes and greens, not somewhere d play every week but I’d definitely go again
Great setting and a good test
Played here more years ago than I cared to remember.. I’d no recollection of the layout at all.
What a lovely setting, so peaceful and in beautiful condition.
A very kind lady member pointed me to the overspill car park and once parked helped to get us started. A warning that several 4 balls were in front came to nothing as their pace of play was excellent.
Just the occasional ‘where next’ due to being unfamiliar with the layout but no complaints at all.
No hesitation in going back.
Little gem
Great course, makes you think when to draw out the driver and when to keep it in the bag.
Lovely people. Highly recommended
Unnecessary temporary greens
We started our round and mid way through our first 9 holes they moved all the flags onto temporary greens which hadn’t really been cut out, they was just a hole on the fairway. We all felt this was a little unnecessary, the greens weren’t particularly wet and were undamaged from pitched shots. £25 seemed like a lot to play the same 9 holes twice on temporary greens, I doubt we’ll be going again, it just seemed a little bit over protective.
The speed of play was very slow due to shared greens, it took almost 5 hours to get around the 18 holes and there tended to be two groups waiting on each tee box.
As this was the first time playing here I was open minded. The course itself is ok but I didn’t realise that there is only about 11 actual greens which doesn’t bother me apart from when you are waiting, say for the front 9 to play through so you could play your hole for the back 9 which causes a back log. And the thing what really got to me is your paying good money to play on greens and there is no signs upon arrival stating that they are using temporary greens. Which them selves are a hole on the fairway which hasn’t been cut to resemble a temp green and has divots and bobbles all over no need to use your putter
Friendliest Members ever
All the courses in the area are a bog and some are even shut However serlby is absolutely bone dry and is playing really well for this time of year .The members are very friendly and accept visitors with open arms .Big Thumbs up.
Wow!!!
After all the rain we have had serlby was in excellent condition for this time of year playing on full tees and greens and the greens were in excellent order .After a big down poor overnight there was 1 puddle on the course which is exceptional as most the courses in the area are shut. This is a 10 hole course and you play in 2 loops of 9.
Nice Hidden Course
Booked through golfnow and when we arrived everything was locked up and after locating a member he said you should have a door code given you via the booking which we didn't so he had to get us a scorecard, no pro shop or bar open ? 9 hole playing twice is interesting but a tad confusing on a couple of holes as 2 greens side by side off 2 tee and doesn't give you a clue which to aim for and the same on another with a shared green with 2 flags ! Signage has improved from other reviews given and wasn't an issue to find them.
The course its self is very good and playing excellently, lush and the greens hold a ball nicely, tee boxes a little fluffy. Go play it and you will return as we will be doing shortly, get it on a hot deal and its a no brainer just don't expect anyone there to greet you....
Need to do better
I've played this course 4 times now and apart from the 1st time I've left disappointed every time ,The course itself is a nice layout and drains really well so its playable all year but the greens let it down alot and today the greens had been hollow tinned and sanded and we had to play on all temps which was a hole put just off the front of the green which wasn't very good on a positive the members here are friendly and welcoming
Warm welcome
One of the friendliest courses we’ve visited. Members were very welcoming. Also one of the strangest layouts we’ve ever played. Fairly quiet when we played not sure how that would pan out on a busy day. Course was in good condition for the time of year.
Value for money
Strange layout on the course but some nice challenging holes as well as holes that you can score well on strange no club shop or able to pay at course though
Excellent flat lovely country course
Excellent, well maintained, enjoyable, nice club house, friendly terrific value.. But one big problem that spoiled it for me - I spent maybe 30 minutes frustated trying to find the next tee - the signeage is terrible at several holes. It makes one feel unwelcome, like the route is a memeber's secret. Please fix it, the hard work is the course not the signeage.
Nice little course
The course was very quiet with no pressure whatsoever on the pace of play. Very nicely kept all around the course. it was a little confusing where a couple of the tees are but they were found after a few minutes so no great issue. The club professional was very welcoming on arrival.
Hidden Gem which could be so much better ...
Serlby is a great course and my golf society friends and I decided to play it again last week. Never anyone there which is always frustrating, but now at least they have TeeOffTimes which means you can play without needing anyone there. It’s a nine golf course which you can play twice with different tee off spots for round 2, however as there is never anyone there and therefore you have no maps for the hole lay outs it’s hard to find your way around. Signage should be improved. The course itself is immaculate and for £16 is a bargain. I just wish they would begin to realise how appealing the course is to the outside world and make more of it. One day I hope they will and then people will come in flocks. Groundsman are always really helpful and friendly and are usually the only people there to chat to. I’ll keep coming and hope things improve.
