Course in great condition
This course is very well looked after and can be a good challenge. It can be very forgiving on certain holes, but not at all on others. For the money, it was well worth it. The 19th hole could be better for watching golf, views are quite restricted.
Good challenging golf course.
Unfortunately this was a terrible experience as I booked the tee time for 3oclock as a 1 ball and had no way of knowing it was taking people in front of me 3 hrs to play nine holes, therefore waiting from the 4th hole onwards 20min per shot. I decided to call it a day after 8 holes as the round would have taken 6 hrs. I was then informed that around 54 four balls had gone out on this day.
I would never have booked this tee time knowing that information.
V enjoyable V tiring
First time here.Course in v respectable condition.Greens were great for Feb.Amazing views towards Manchester and Lyme Park.Picked a Hot Deals cost me £9.V tiring as undulating fairways and some steep climbs but would play again definitely.Got lucky by getting round in 3 1/2 hours as some friendly 2 and 3 balls let me through.Surprised how foregiving the course was but kept it straight.Play it ull enjoy it but try and make ur score early unless uve got amazing stamina
Amazing
Wow what can I say. This course is amazing and in great condition. I played another course the week before which charged me £5 more and just had a hole in the middle of the fairway. This course was still on summer greens which were in fantastic condition.
The moment I arrived I was given superb hospitality and anyone looking to book a round here should do so now. You will not be disappointed in anyway at all.
Course is excellent with challenges for all ability golfers
Considering the amount of rain we had in the area the course was in very good condition. First time of playing the course and found that it had a great mix of holes. Hole 8 is a particular highlight of the course with its layout and hole 18 is worth waiting for. Staff very friendly and helpful. Definitely play this course again but hopefully when the weather is clear so can see the amazing views.
Good deal for winter golf.
Staff are welcoming. Course layout is good, great views of Manchester and Cheshire. A wet course but so are many at this time of year. Greens were rolling well but not consistent speed. A fun day and some very interesting holes.
Sloping fairways
The course was in good condition despite the recent wet weather. A few greens bobbly but most quite quick. My issue was the number of fairways with sideways slopes which did not hold many shots in regulation. This made a decent score difficult despite accurate driving
excellent challenge
The course although not long is a true test, some lovely holes.Although not long there is a great distance between holes so recommend a Buggy unless your really fit!
Unfortunately it was very wet and muddy in places but thats just the unusual amount of rain in last few weeks, played same time last year it was perfect.
Giod value
Plated many times. It has some really nice holes. Greens were particularly slow this time. Enjoyed the round.
Beautiful course
My recent trip to your course was a great experience , next time i will be booking a buggy in advance haha thanks again for the experience look forward to playing back on there soon
great course let down by greens
Played a four ball here yesterday and we all had the same feelings about the course. They layout and condition of the course was/is really good but it was severely let down by the condition of all the greens.
They were probably the worst greens I've encountered. They were patchy, not cut and some had damage to them. You could not expect to hole any puts from most distances as the ball would pull up or jump all over the place.
It's a shame about the greens as it's a good course with some great holes and some spectacular views.
I would recommend playing here but only if they sort the greens out.
We had a Groupon deal and we were glad we didn't pay the full price.
Alex
I have played here before and it was great but unfortunately this time wasn't great the greens were in a poor condition, grass very long and I had to muscle the putts home. Not the feel I'm used to when putting.
Shame
Long course with lots of hills-buggy needed
The course has many enjoyable holes that are challenging to even the more experienced golfers. No staff were seen on my visit even though it was peak times, the club house is hard to find so we were unable to check in but managed to find our way to the first tee. Between each green and the next tee you will find you have to walk a fair distance, this making the course feel even longer. I would recommend using a buggy in order to maintain optimum energy levels during the whole course.
Beautiful layout
This is a fantastic course with some memorable holes. I would recommend this to a friend and will definitely play it again. My only fault of the course is the greens weren't up to the standard which reflects in my rating results.
Course in poor order
Very wet of course in winter but greens tinged and filled with sand so hard to putt accurately. Lots of tractor marks and buggy marks on fairways. Unlike other courses I have played in the winter some tees are open and not winter ones and apparently no fairway mats so this ones not help the course to be acceptable in the winter. Trust the summer will improve the course.
Seems to me that Shrigley are more interested in looking after the hotel side of things rather than running the golf course properly as other golf clubs in the area do.
Great course great views
Great course a must play... Poor greens today having being hollowtined and not dressed, spoiled the round a tab but hey ho that's winter golf.
Slow play
Played the course meany times and is a lovely course but pace of play is very slow. Played on Saturday 26th Novembe and it took nearly 3 hours for front 9 as we were stuck behind a society of 12 non golfers. We gave up after 9 holes as it would have been pitch black by the time we finish. This isn't unusual everytime I have played Shrigley it's been slow but this time was rediculous, maybe some vetting of golfers is needed or marshalling of course as no one is monitoring pace of play.
Good value golf
The course is in good condition for the time of year. Some improvements of signage necessary. Did not use a buggy but would concede it is a physically challenging round. Interesting variety of more challenging and easier holes, although a first round made a little more difficult by numerous blind shots. Some stunning views of the area and the hall.
Stunning BUT....
Stunning and truly challenging course. The course lay-out and degree of difficulty are awesome. However, it needs a lot of TLC. The fairways are too long, the cut grass were left uncollected, all the paths are so untidy, really messy with dried cuttings that looks like been left there 2 years ago. The tee beds are in very poor state, not well sign posted. Some of the greens are diseased and patchy in places. It's a great shame because all the holes are quite interesting and some can be intimidating. I enjoyed playing the course but I won't be coming back. The Pro shop is very difficult to find too. Tucked away deep in the most unlikely place, way too far from the car park in a building which can be accessed by walking through broken narrow road. Very depressing and unwelcoming sight indeed.
Many thanks for your comments u7553810. Much appreciated and great news that you enjoyed the course so much. We look forward to welcoming you back again in the summer.
