Winter Golf

Partner and I played this course on a sunny Sunday at start of Feb . Firstly the Pro shop was closed so had to check in with bar staff . Very smiley lady said could go when ready as fairly quiet so win win . When set up realised we were behind two 4 balls but they kindly let us play first. Thank you to them . Now the course:- This is one tough knock and is more suited to a Billy Goat or someone with one leg longer than another . At no point do you stand somewhere flat and just keep climbing it seems to hole nine .You struggle to hold your trolley traversing the ground . The course could have done with a good trim but probably left long for winter .Greens were in good nick just very wet ,slow and bobbly . Some stunning views were had so not bad for a £12 round price. It was very claggy with your ball picking up a lot of mud all the way round but I suppose that’s winter golf .7 par threes on the course doesn’t help either so not my type of golf. I would travel the extra miles and join East Devon .Didn’t stop for a drink because needed to get back for football but clubhouse looked very dated with loads of chipboard flooring needing carpeting. But hey ho another one ticked off .

Sidmouth the return

Good weather and the course much looked in fair condition bearing in mind the prolonged wet weather we've had. Some greens were soggy but not enough to effect putting. Some challenging holes, especially the long par 3s.

A difficult day

The recent prolonged dry weather had caused the ground to get hard and with the short scorched grass and sloping fairways meant it was difficult staying on the fairways. Many balls were lost as a result. Not helped by the course being busy which meant we felt under pressure to keep up a good pace of play and meant balls were given up as a lost cause many times. A couple of points where holes cross over caused a frustrating delay. Greens looked nourished though and were fine. Nice course when it has grass.

Poor course

Fairways very difficult with too much slope. Ball ends up on wrong fairway. Need a buggy as hills are extreme and exhausting. Greens were very small and quick so balls just run through. Not a good experience.

Enjoyable day. After summer the fairways were very slick so difficult to control the ball. Assured by other members that this was unusual. A very hilly course. Electric trolleys a must

Trip to Devon

Greens were fantastic, but almost every hole is on a severe incline from left to right or vice versa.

We paid £20 each so we weren’t ripped off but we wouldn’t go again staff and members were really friendly

Scenic but challenging

Interesting course which winds it’s way up the valley and then back down again. Some lovely views down towards the sea. Small tricky greens with plenty of scope to overshoot… it’s definitely a bit of a workout, but I did enjoy it.

Always a challenge

I've played this course many times - in fact I have a love-hate relationship with it. Nice to have a bit of roll again though after the wet season. Good condition and some greens reached in regulation!
