Scenic woodland course

Sidmouth was an enjoyable test of golf but for visitors I would stress the need for a reasonable level of fitness because some of the homes (predominantly on the front 9) are quite steeply uphill.

The course was presented in great condition with receptive greens that were very slippery above the hole.

Some of the views particularly at the top of the course are

Breathtaking which is just as well as taking in breath will be very necessary by this point!!

The best holes are on the back nine with the 13th being my favourite. Don’t be fooled by the apparent lack of yardage as the topography renders this meaningless.

I would need to play the course s few times to pass sensible judgment because it’s an unusual test and my game was not up to it on the day but I certainly enjoyed my visit.

Better than expected

We played the first hole in the last shower of the day after which it was a gorgeous sunny autumn afternoon.

The course was a lot more picturesque than I was expecting, maybe the website could do with some fresh pictures because it was just stunning in places.

The greens were in good nick, if a little slow which took some getting used to but it had been very wet in the morning.

Most of the par 3’s of which there are quite a few, we’re quite difficult and with quite a few blind shots it was a good test, especially for the first timer.

All in all the course was in good condition and we got round in less than 3 - 1/2 hours.

The staff were very friendly and a nice pint was enjoyed on the sunny balcony.

Will return.

Mind blown.

Absolutely incredible golf course. Welcomed by the pro in the shop who seemed a lovely fella, then onto the 1st tee and the the green and fairway were just like carpet they were to perfection (eventhough there was a practically a storm a couple hours before tee off!) A very hilly course which I really liked but might not be for everyone which I understand, the views on every hole was just brilliat especially the 10th tee, finished our round and went into the clubhouse for a pint and a bite to eat, I bought 2 drinks 2 cod and chips and 2 chicken gujon starters and it come to £30! You won't find many courses that cheap especially at that quality of food aswell, I shall be back up again in no time and I recommend anyone who lives in the area to play up there, thankyou for your hospitality.

Challenging

A tough outward 9 because of the constant camber as the course is built on the side of a hill.

The back 9 was far more enjoyable simply because it was more level.

A very picturesque course in a delightful setting.

Challenging

Great course that all though not too long presents a real challenge as you negotiate the contours of the hills and get to grips with sloping stances, particularly on the front nine. Good fun.

Pleasant contoured golf with sea views

Lovely setting going up the valley with sea views across the Bay and across town. Holes up, down and across each other provide an interesting challenge where yardages don't mean much. Greens fast and true for seaside golf, but hard to read the contours. Enjoyable and proper golf!

Beautifully challenging.

It was the most physically challenging course I’ve played on, due to the layout. Elevated tees and greens along with sloping steep hills will be a technically testing course for any ability. However frustrating though you might find it, the pleasure of being in complete silence, apart from the birds tweeting in the trees and the odd smash of a driver, make it all the worth while.

You can hire buggies if you’re not up for working your fit bit too hard!!

The only criticism, is the crossing of tees over fairways, and the lack of a bell on the last hole to notify the drivers off the tee that the green is free…..as a good player would probably reach it in one…..I nearly took a bloke out, and I was maybe 20 yards short.

Worth a play….just to say you’ve tried it out. You won’t be disappointed.

Short but fun

Relatively short course but challenging at times. Some hard uphill par 3s and some tough approaches onto raised greens. Probably not challenging for really good players but for mid and high handicappers it gives opportunities for pars and birdies, as well as plenty of chances to miss greens. Drainage seemed great given recent rain, and good exercise on the hill side. Great views. Will be back plenty.

Challenging course

Played for first time with a friend very challenging with undulating greens quite a short course and quite hilly but all in all a very enjoyable experience. Only negative was we were only able to have a bowl of chips after the round which was a little disappointing but staff very friendly.

Great course

Lovely picturesque course. Great views of the surroundings areas, played in the winter so temporary greens were in play on 4 holes and hole 4 was closed, can’t wait for the summer to play here. Lovely hole set up and testing course. Would highly recommend
