Value for money
It's not the best course in the area by a long way but it is value for money and very much worth it. Tees and greens need some work but the course is in good condition generally and always a challenge.
First time a Sothwell
Played here for the first time. A very pleasant course of two halves. The front nine is a little short and some walking back to tees on some holes. The second half is a little more challenging parkland course.
Certainly a course I would go back and play again.
We got a warm welcome from both staff and other regular players.
Quite unique in the area?
Feels like two different courses. The front nine inside the race track is very tight especially if golfers on adjacent holes are wayward with their shots It has the feel of a longer par three course.
The back nine is much better and feels like a proper golf course. Good value for money nevertheless and an interesting and varied golfing experience..
Great Experience
Arrived at course, checked in and was met by a very pleasant gentleman who took the time to discuss the course and provide many tips for our first visit, there was a competition in progress, but still managed to get something to eat, and a number of people came over to say hello and welcome.
Golf was a a good pace, the competition was in the final stages so did not impact on us
100% recommended
Excellent site . Will definitely return
The course was in very good condition . Well impressed with it . Will definitely be coming back . Good test of golf for all standards ...
Hidden gem! One of Notts best.
Really fantastic course! Front 9 is inside the perimeter of the racecourse and has a lot of water and OOB areas, makes for a really challenging start. Back 9 is a beautiful, well established park course with plenty of trees. The course overall was in lovely condition and provided us both with a real challenge. Will 100% be returning.
Watch out for the 7th, it’s a short par 3 with the green surrounded on 3 sides by water. Loads of fun!!
Staff were really friendly. Had my clubs regripped a couple of weeks ago too by the same place and the service was seamless.
Poor communication
Booked this through golf now at Southwell, turned up and said the course was closed with no warning at all. Travelled a good 30 mins for this round and they didn’t call or anything to say the course would be closed. There was another 6 lads turned up with the same issue. This was also pre paid for and a waste of £40.
Challenging course, friendly welcome
Welcome was warm from the pro and we were sent out promptly.
The first nine are played within the circuit of the Southwell Race Course and therefore have a slightly artificial feel about them. Plenty of water hazards, including the signature 7th with its island green. Requires accuracy rather than distance as the racecourse limits the boundaries.
Second nine a complete contrast, a parkland course with tree-lined fairways and three holes with domed greens. The 10th could do with a bell to tell those behind the green is clear as you can't see it from the fairway due to a high bank.
Grass was long and there were lots of leaves on the fairways and rough, meaning several balls were lost as they just couldn't be found.
Play was slo as it was the last day before lockdown #2, but still round in 3½ hours as a two-ball and just before the light faded.
Golf was rubbish but would play again as the course has become a nemesis!
