Challenging course, friendly welcome
Welcome was warm from the pro and we were sent out promptly.
The first nine are played within the circuit of the Southwell Race Course and therefore have a slightly artificial feel about them. Plenty of water hazards, including the signature 7th with its island green. Requires accuracy rather than distance as the racecourse limits the boundaries.
Second nine a complete contrast, a parkland course with tree-lined fairways and three holes with domed greens. The 10th could do with a bell to tell those behind the green is clear as you can't see it from the fairway due to a high bank.
Grass was long and there were lots of leaves on the fairways and rough, meaning several balls were lost as they just couldn't be found.
Play was slo as it was the last day before lockdown #2, but still round in 3½ hours as a two-ball and just before the light faded.
Golf was rubbish but would play again as the course has become a nemesis!
Great course at short notice
Late booking were able to squeeze in, very friendly staff, the course is very well maintained great little course flat but can
Be tricky on some holes, I would say don’t follow the sat nav as it seems to take you to a dead end road they must know about it as there is a sign, overall great experience would go again
Brilliant course
All staff and members I bumped into where friendly and all had pointers to share with us about various holes with us being new to the course.
Amazingly kept course throughout, o real roughs so can be forgiving as well as challenging due to all the hazards in play. Front 9 is quite tight between fairways with plenty of sand bunkers and water but very little rough or trees. Back 9 off the racecourse is like a different course completely yet still brilliant. Plenty of trees and dog legs but all rough kept really well making it hard to lose balls. All in all best course I’ve played
Lovely course
Good mixture of holes unique setting for the 1st 9 inside the racecourse then inside the trees for the back 9
Shame about the tee boxes
Great value for money - some challenging holes such as 7, 16 and 17 which were good to play. This was our first time but if we play again I think we'll tackle it differently.
Let down by the tee boxes which were a mess - divots everywhere and not mown very closely.
Day with friends
Met some friends at mutual course so good fun for us all.
Definitely go back with or without my friends
A change
An interesting course with very different front and back nines. We didn't enjoy the first nine and would rather play 10 to18 twice.
Ok course
for the price it wasnt bad not the best course iv ever played greens are in ok condition, fairways and roughs are good tees are atrocious, staff are very friendly and helpful for me i dont think i would go back due to condition and the hrs drive it took to get there but if i lived around the area i would play again
Unique course
It’s a bit odd walking under the outer barriers and crossing a race track to get to the course in the middle but it’s ok... it’s a young course with the back 9 much better than the front 9.
The front 9 looks very young and a bit sparse but the back 9 is great.... the 17th with the raised green and false front is a killer, if it was dry then miss the front and you could well roll back 50/60 yards! Oh but don’t go long as the 18th tee is directly behind it!
Not a bad course, however I got 2 “speeding tickets” at 6:30am on the same road, same morning on route doing 34 in a 30 so be VERY careful!
First time
Played this with 3 others all first time found it very challenging to wot we uselly play greens were in great condition we will be back
Southwell in the sun
Decent course, good value, greens decent, pace of play good
will play again
